There is a truth about being an indie developer: the success of our work depends on you – the community.
It’s the gamers and our games’ fans who make all the difference in the world when we work on a new project. It is the case not only for us but for every small indie studio out there.
If you are interested in a title, there are a few things you can to to help out:
- Add the game to your wishlist – whether it’s Steam or GOG or some other platform, there will be a Wishlist button somewhere. Go and click it. It’s takes about 10 seconds but is immensely powerful! It not only shows us that people are interested in our game but also gives us more exposure on the platform itself;
- Follow the game on Steam and its social media platforms – it will let you keep in touch with the devs and/or publishers and you’ll know all that’s happening around the development;
- Interact with our posts – like and comment on our posts, both on Steam and on social media. It shows us what you think about the content and spreads awareness about the game;
- Propose some user-defined tags on Steam – if you think that our game is similar to a popular one you’ve played recently but an important tag is missing on our Steam page, propose it! Good tags really help a game get visibility it needs to take off;
- Tell your friends – it helps! If you like a game, tell your friends about it, share it on a discord server, on a social network group, or on your Twitter dashboard. Once again: visibility. The more people know about our game, the more people might also find it interesting and would like to play. Perhaps in this way they will find a game they will truly fall in love with but would otherwise never knew existed. Look at how powerful your one share can be!
These easy actions are fundamental to the success of an indie game. Indie devs cannot buy likes or hype their games just because of the name of the studio working on them. We need a community who loves our projects – and are willing to help. Can indie devs count on you?
