Hello everyone, today I am proud to announce that The Further Descent update for Maguntsche: Chapter One Remastered is nearly here! The update will be available to the public starting at midnight on Tuesday (August 24, 2021) [EST]. Since release, we've been hard at work adding new quality of life improvements and features to improve the overall user experience. To celebrate, you can also get your copy of the game at a discounted price all week long! This update is packed with a ton of new changes and improvements. So let's get into them!
Level Variability
As a first in the series, you can now experience up to 26 different level combinations every time you load into the game! This not only provides some replay-ability to the game, but also increases the spawn location variety of archive entries by 120%. Many of these new iterations have environmental hazards, so it was important that we provide you with a new flashlight as well.
New Flashlight Mechanics & Improved Interface
In addition to an increase in battery life, the flashlight can now be used to slow down the Maguntsche Demon temporarily. This is of course at the expense of charging his frenzy ability more quickly. This new defensive mechanism should buy the player sometime in-between world transitions. The user interface has also been given some improvements both in the menus and in-game. The player HUD now has a flashlight battery indicator, as well as a new dial that better communicates the charge level of the Maguntsche Demon.
New Tutorial Section
As part of our UI changes, we've also gone and implemented a polished tutorial section that breaks down the user interface in-game. This section will also provide some new hints and tips regarding the newly added randomized level iterations. We plan to build on this new system in future releases to allow further insight into new game modes coming in the future.
Other New Changes Include...
New Environment Interactions
You can now interact with select objects in-game. These interactions allow you to better explore your environment as well as reveal additional story elements. We want to continue to build on this system in future updates and would like some user feedback regarding these simple interactions.
New In-Game Settings Menu
You can now change most of the game's settings from within the pause menu, this was done to eliminate the player from having to enter and leave a game to adjust settings comfortably.
Added Six New Achievements
We've gone ahead and added some new achievements surrounding the Further Descent update. Most of these new achievements provide new challenges to the player and will test your abilities. Some of these new achievements are secret ones as well!
New Visual Enhancements
This includes new graphics in our menus, new textures and materials in the game environment, as well as improvements to fog gradients, lighting, and reflection maps. The onscreen pixel density has been slightly increased to provide more clarity. You can also find some additional decorative elements throughout the game.
Additional Quality of Life Improvements
Other small improvements, such as a restart button in the death screen will prevent the player from having to navigate through the main menu to jump back into a game. We have a better breakdown of these bug fixes and improvements below:
