Hello!
In today’s DevBlog, we have (one of our) last WARNO - NORTHAG previews, focusing on the new, number #4 map: Valley.
Note that all new maps will be freely available and downloadable for all owners of WARNO.
A Real-Life Inspiration
Valley is inspired by the Bad König region in West Germany, known for its rugged valleys and rough terrain. The 9 km² battlefield - which equates to 3x3 km - is similar in size to popular maps such as Airport, Twin Cities, and Rocks.
At launch, the map will be geared towards 3vs3 battles, but we are already working on implementing additional game modes, including the mighty 10vs10, 1vs1, and Destruction variants (might be rolled out separately at a later date).
Valley sets out to challenge players with a combo of rivers, mountains, and a central plain with scattered woods and defensive points. This new battlefield is going to require all the tactical prowess and skills of a well-experienced WARNO commander.
Topography
So, what’s the deal with Valley? The new map features two naturally flowing rivers bordering the edges of the battlefield. These provide a unique opportunity to use your amphibious units. The waterways snake their way through the map, creating several tactical chokepoints and passageways very suitable for ambushes (or swift retreats).
That’s not all: Valley also includes some mountainous terrain (again inspired by the real-life situation on the ground). These offer great vantage points for your hidden recon units (and surprise attacks). There won’t be any Command Zones here, so this part of the map is all about gaining the tactical upper hand.
On Valley’s central plain, a vast flat zone with a scattering of defensive points and hedgerows, be prepared for some fierce positional battles. The bits of woods and thickets will be the prime location for some intense skirmishes.
Gaining control of the plain requires some forward-thinking and patient strategizing. No river too deep, no mountain too high, but you’ll have to be a patient but adventurous commander if you want to take hold - and dominate - this part of Valley.
The new WARNO - NORTHAG expansion
WARNO - NORTHAG is the first major expansion coming to WARNO. World War III hits the North German Plain where the attacking Warsaw Pact needs to overcome the staunch defenses of NATO’s NORTHAG. Under British command, Belgian, Dutch, West German, and American forces battle against the powerful northern formations of the Soviet Group of Forces in Germany, including East German and reinforcing Polish armies. The expansion is planned for later in 2024.
