Yesterday marked the 77th anniversary of the Normandy landings, an operation that became the beginning of the final Allied offensive on the Western Front of World War II.
The northern coasts of France were protected by a chain of fortifications, including an artillery battery near the village of Longues-sur-Mer. The guns there kept the Allied ships at bay and fired at the beaches where the soldiers landed.
The next day, 77 years ago, after intense bombardments that also damaged nearby civilian buildings, the battery crew surrendered.
Both the German battery and the village of Longues-sur-Mer will appear in WW2 Rebuilder. Explore bunkers, secure resources and help rebuild a ruined French village!
