Last Christmas, we left you with a little sneak peek of our Scenarios list for SuperPower 3 ;) Some of you may have seen them, some of you may not but they were there! Now, we’re ready to talk about them a little bit more, so let’s go! (And if you didn’t see it, we’ll put it back here for your little spying eyes!)

FROM THE START
For SuperPower 3, it was clear that we wanted to make scenarios, and we wanted lots of them. But most of all we wanted them to be realistic. Why? Because the world news around us, for the last couple of years now, were… interesting to say the least. From presidential candidates and elections in the US to everything happening in China, the developments in the Middle East and Russia, Iran’s nuclear program and the effects of a global pandemic on Europe meant we had a lot to choose from since the beginning of our development for SuperPower 3.
From the start, we told you that we created a team of Researchers (if you don’t know what we’re talking about, Here’s a link to our videos about it). They have been assembling data and information daily since then. Believe us, it made for a large amount of data. After the research part, they had to divide and organize the data collected so our artists and programmers could make a game out of it.
At the same time, the researchers also had to create a list of playable scenarios, based on real-life events and catastrophes. We already have about twenty scenarios, ten tutorials and we’re still creating other ones now… Because the news won’t stop!
All of this will allow you to connect real-world events in the news and play them ingame. Yes, some scenarios were created with a little more ‘’fantasy’’ but they will always be relatable with what’s happening in the real world. And if you prefer to play sandbox and do everything that you want, or take a break from the scenarios, you will also be able to do that! In that case, you will have the option to choose any country in the world and any gameplay that you have in mind. All categories are at your disposition: politics, economy, military, and demography... It’s all up to you! Finally, when it launches, you will be able to create your own scenarios too.
INGAME
When you enter the game, you will have to choose your scenario first. From the get-go, you will have access to a short resume of each scenario available. We tried to make them brief and interesting for you. Then you will see all the flags of the countries that you can play in the selected scenario. When clicking on a country, the success and failure conditions will change accordingly and show up on the right of the Scenario Menu. And on top of that, we made a profile for each country, in every scenario in the middle part.

With this profile, you will be able to see early on what’s your starting point in each department (the Politics, Economy, Demography and Military gameplay) for every country. For example, in a scenario about the new Silk Road of China, while playing China, your population approval will already be at 79% from the start of the game. That means you would be in quite a good place on a domestic stability and productivity point of view. You would be able to make a couple changes, take difficult decisions… It’s up to you! But you can already plan it a little bit with the profile you see in the Scenario Menu!
Otherwise, you will be happy to know that scenarios will be available in single player or multiplayer mode! In multiplayer, the playable countries will be preselected for the players and each of you will have a different objective. That objective will be compatible or… not! Also in multiplayer mode, there will be rules for the management of nuclear weapons so you can better control what kinds of games you want to play with your friends. The kind of objectives, success and failure conditions that will be available will vary a lot from one to another. But if I tell you a few examples; you could have to increase the education budget at a certain percentage, sign an alliance treaty with an important country, or maintain the government support above a percentage. Such as in a Haïti’s crisis scenario, to succeed you would have to bring the human development index at 65%. And you would fail if your relations decreased with other countries!
Like we said, making the scenarios realistic was one of our priorities. But another priority was accessibility. We wanted the players to be able to easily create scenarios and share them on Steam Workshop too! Even better, the scenarios are simple word files that everyone can make and share. There will be no complicated things. The AI will even adapt itself to all new scenarios that you might add.
AFTER THE RELEASE
It’s clear for us that the scenario options will continue to grow even after the release of the game since there’s always more news coming out every day. We will continue to update this feature as time passes, so it’s always up to date with the real world. We can’t wait for you all to see them, and maybe even add to them! We’re really excited about this part because we know it adds to the gameplay for the players. And since it’ll be so realistic, it’s even more exciting.
For today, our first Dev Diary, we thought we could show you a glimpse of our Scenario Menu in SuperPower 3 :) So, we want to know, what do you think? Are you excited for this part of the game? Which one do you think you will try first? Will you try an easy one at first or a difficult one? Do you have any suggestion for a scenario already in mind? Tell us!
Next time, we will return with the topic of the Characters’ Creation, talking more about the starting conditions, the rules and how those can shape each game in SuperPower 3. That idea of customization came to us because the players of the SuperPower 2 community were doing (and some still do) roleplaying games while playing! But do not be afraid, that aspect of the game isn’t just cosmetic, it brings important gameplay effect. Until we’re back to give you more details, stay safe!
