Hello everyone,
today we will try to tell you more about the world and the characters of Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow.
At first glance, Daydream seems to be another Limbo-Like 3D platformer. Indeed, such games as Limbo and Little Nightmares inspired us during the creation of the gameplay process and some locations. However, the story we want to tell is different, because it has the beginning and the end.
The world of the game is not real, it exists only in the head of the main character, Griffin. All the components of this world are based on how Griffin himself perceives the surrounding reality, from which he is trying to escape. An attentive player may notice that Griffin has difficulties in his family, and the images of his enemies and allies echo what is happening in his life. The main character's parents are just what remains behind the scenes. Griffin's family is patriarchal: a strict and even domineering father, a meek and silent mother. Unfortunately, the father often allows himself to drink too much and take out his irritation on the household. For example, Griffin sees himself in different socks, which shows that he is not taken care of enough, and the image of the knight who hunts him echoes the image of his despotic father. At the same time, lighter images in the head of the main character are often associated with his mother.
Of course, it is worth mentioning Birly, who in Griffin's imaginary world is his best friend. Birly for Griffin is a symbol of childhood and innocence. He takes care of him as he would like his parents to take care of him.
Griffin and Birly do not travel aimlessly through the fantasy world, there is a goal, but the player does not know about it yet. Griffin's mission allows him to be reborn as soon as he dies, which Birly is aware of - he grabs his plush head when Griffin dies for one reason or another, thereby showing annoyance and despair.
You will have to find out for yourself what exactly Griffin and Birly are looking for, what they are running away from, what kind of mysterious hand is chasing them. Achievements in the game will help you in this, each of which is a reference to a real memory. By collecting them all, the player will be able to learn the secrets of Griffin's story. Believe me, it will be very unexpected.
Some found a clue in the name of the game - Forgotten Sorrow. Why "sadness"? And why "forgotten"? Is Griffin going through some kind of grief? Fleeing from it or, on the contrary, trying to prevent it?
What are your thoughts and guesses? Share any of them in the commentary, looking forward to discussing them!
