Hey, Detectives.
While Enigma of Fear takes part in the ScreamFest, we want to share something special with you: the behind-the-scenes look at how we built the atmosphere that haunts your nightmares.
Have you ever stopped to look at the refrigerator in any of the houses in the game? The rotting food inside isn’t there by accident. Every object, piece of furniture, and decorative detail was meticulously chosen to tell who lived there, their routines, their fears, their last meals before everything changed. It’s a way of delivering information that isn’t directly stated in the story but helps us shape the identity of those who once inhabited the region.
Every corner of the game was crafted with care. From sound design to lighting, every element was designed to enhance the mysterious atmosphere of The Place That Doesn’t Exist — the Perimeter.
Creating fear isn’t just about darkness; it’s about contrast. It’s about that faint light barely illuminating the hallway, making you wonder: “Did something move over there?”
We carefully balanced light and shadow to evoke two simultaneous feelings: this place is abandoned, yet at some point, someone lived here. And maybe... still does. That balance was essential not only indoors but also in natural, open environments.
To make players feel fully immersed, sound and music play a key role — guiding emotions and sensations. From calm yet mysterious tunes during exploration, to tension and danger during action scenes.
With an exceptional team of voice actors, every cassette tape you find, every dialogue, carries the emotional weight of the characters who once lived in the Perimeter.
