Hello everyone!
For the past 2 weeks the focus has been laid on physics track pieces / decoration & marble customization! Major groundwork has been laid to support physics on track pieces & decorational objects to be able to create a more dynamic marble run. Next to that there has been some exploration done on how to easily customize marbles to your choice and I'm very statisfied with the results so far!
Physics on track pieces
Looking at real life marble runs, pieces that can move add a big value in how the marbles behave. Think of sorting marbles into groups for example as shown in the gif above. Or add a more random factor by putting spinning pylons on your track which your marbles can push around and have them slow down other marbles. Next to that physics pieces also really bring your track to life!
For a part of the last 2 weeks the focus has been laid on creating scalable solutions so it's fast & easy for me to create new track pieces & decorational items that have some or alot of physics attached to them. As a result of that we now have various physics based track pieces & decorational items!
Customization & Marble Identity
One of the cornerstones of this game is the ability to hold races. And that has also been a big part of the work past few days. Marbles can now be named as you want and have their skin changed whenever you want. Next to that you can easily toggle marble names on or off if you just want to see marbles rolling without names!
To customize a marble, a small window popup is introduced when you click on a marble. Here you can customize the marble as you want and within this window future customizations will also be possible. (Like trails!)
Next week
For the upcoming time I'd like to do weekly updates and give a small sneak peek into what's going on behind the scenes & how the thought process goes for Marble World. So let's start off by mentioning that for the next week the focus remains on racing. In this case having the ability to populate a track instantly with random marbles with names & preferred skins.
After that's out of the way a very cool feature is planned which lets you easily paint track pieces into various colors!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
