Hello, this is Wonho Son.
Today, I’ll be discussing the status effects of the AnVIL battle system.
I will go over the different status effects implemented in the game and give you in-game tips.
Types of Status Effects
There are currently four different types of status effects: burn, freeze, petrification, and shock. There were more in the early stages of development, but we decided to reduce it down to four and try to synergize between them.

- Cause N% of your attack damage every second for 15 seconds
- Does not stack
- More effective the higher your attack damage is

- Freezes target for 5 seconds, making them unable to perform an action

- Petrifies enemies for 7 seconds, making them unable to perform an action
- Petrified enemy’s defense sharply increases

- Shocks enemies for 15 seconds, greatly reducing their defense
- Useful in multiplayer mode boss battles
Besides these four, although there are fewer implementations, poison exists as well. Weapons such as venomcaster and relics like poison greaves will allow you to poison enemies. In the future, we will introduce a breaker that has poison as their main kit.

- Cause N% of your attack damage every second for 15 seconds
- Can stack up to N times
- The higher the enemy’s health, the more efficient
Status Effect Immunity
Basic immunity
- A target that has been under status effect will receive 20% reduced effect time in the following status effects
- For example, a target frozen once for 5 seconds will only be able to be frozen for 4 seconds
- As such, forming different a co-op team with breakers that have different status effects is efficient
Planet immunity
- Monsters in jungle theme planets are immune to poison
- Monsters in dessert theme planets are immune to petrification
- Monsters in tundra theme planets are immune to freeze
- Monsters in volcanic theme planets are immune to burn
- Machine themed monsters are immune to shock
Enemy tier immunity
- Different tier enemies have different immunity times
- Boss / raid boss monsters take 50% reduced status effects
Boss battle immunity
- AnVIL bosses have battle phases
- Each health bar is a different phase
- When phases change, all status effect on the boss monster is removed and they become immune to all status effects for a short period
- It is wise to stop attacking and step back to see what pattern the boss will attack with
Tips for good status effect use
- Shock is good for fighting boss monsters, so it is good to have a breaker with shock ability in the team.
- Having two or more breakers with the same status effect is inefficient
- It is better not to apply an additional status effect (freeze, petrification, etc.) that makes the boss unable to perform an action when it is already unable to perform an action
- It is better to apply the status effect after the previous one is over
We went into detail for the blog today, but for players to enjoy AnVIL to its fullest, especially to create good breaker combinations in multiplayer mode, an understanding of how the status effects work is crucial.
Any cool ideas on how to improve the status effect system or personal opinions on the system are always welcome.
Thank you.
