Greetings, Principal!
As we have mentioned in our previous diary, this time we would like to give you a more in-depth explanation about our new combat system in this sequel. In HSS, the game combat system is based on its fast-paced, action-based system and now in HSS2 it has become a fast-paced, turn-based system. By changing the combat system, we hope it would provide more comprehensive gameplay for all our players.
We should start by mentioning on what we learn from Hero School Story. Based on player feedback on HSS, there was a conflict between the fast-paced combat and the slower-paced academy. A significant portion of players liked one thing but not so much the other. Additionally, in HSS, the combat was heavily influenced by players' dexterity and mechanical skills, and therefore the students' progression in the academy didn't matter much in combat. (see pic below)

So, in HSS2, we decided to rework the combat into a turn-based system. This will require strategic thinking and be more consistent with the academy management section. The idea is to reward players who properly prepared their students in the academy before going into battle, and every bit of progress made by the students can be immediately felt in combat.
Combat in HSS2 introduces a "Shield Break" system, in which you have to match student proficiencies with enemies' defenses. This encourages not only bringing a higher variety of students into battle compared to HSS, but it also challenges the player to develop a diverse roster in their academy (or focus in specific proficiencies). We realize that the game has taken quite a turn in terms of its combat experience for players from the previous game (HSS1). However, we are sure that players old or new would be able to enjoy the more comprehensive combat system that we introduce in HSS2. With this we wrap up the Number 1 diary and there will be more to come to update you all on what we are working on for our beloved academy.
Thank you for your time reading!
