Hey everyone, welcome to our new devlog!
I created this series of updates to keep everyone up to date with the cool stuff we’ve been working on and to provide a peek behind the scenes at some of the progress we’ve made so far. This week we’ve been working on a number of new features including new minis, tokens, server permissions, mini customization options, and more.
I’m also happy to announce the winning content pack for our v0.7.3 update. Last week I asked the community to vote on what content they would like to see added to the game next and over 120 of you folks reached out using our google form. The winner of our first community vote is (drumroll please) the Village Pack! We’ll be adding a bunch of props from this pack to Game Master Engine in the next coming update along with a number of other new features.
Don’t have the Game Master DLC? No problem! The Village Pack will be freely available for anyone to use, even if you have the free edition.
You DO have the Game Master DLC? Well, I have good news for you! Along with the previously mentioned Village pack, we will also be introducing a Game Master exclusive addition to the prop list. This updates exclusive props will include the Underwater Temple pack. If you own the Game Master DLC you’ll have access to these props after the next update.
Please keep in mind that everything you’re about to see is extremely early in development and may not reflect what may be released in any official future update.
- More Ways To Customize Minis:
One of the things we’ve been focusing on this week is adding additional ways for players to customize minis. You can now paint your minis and bases individually with a number of matte, metallic, or crystal colors. The visibility tool allows the Game Master to hide minis from the player's view and the torch tool allows you to give your figure a source of illumination. You can also assign names to individual minis and create a floating name card above its head. All of these options (and a whole lot more) will be available through a new radial menu that will appear when you right-click a mini. We have icons in place for a number of different things like measuring tools, HP, status trackers, assigned stats, and more. The functionality of these additional icons will be added in the coming weeks.
- New Minis From Valkyrie’s Playground:
Valkyrie's Playground has generously provided 12 brand new minis for you to use in your maps! These minis include a set of both traditional and sci-fi orcs that are sure to blow you away. Check out their store and get access to all of their high-quality prints!
- Player Uploaded And Premade Tokens:
In addition to new minis, we are also adding a large number of premade tokens. You can customize these tokens in almost every way including size and border color. You can also provide a URL and upload your own custom image onto any token allowing for a much deeper level of customization.
- Server Permissions:
Lastly, we are working on a system of permissions that will allow the Game Master to have greater control over the lobby. These permissions include allowing (or restricting) the party's ability to build, move minis and edit other aspects of the world. These permissions will also allow the Game Master to assign specific minis to specific players so that they can only manipulate and control the characters that the GM allows them to.
Phew! I think that about wraps it up for this week. We had some difficulties troubleshooting a bug that prevented minis from staying hidden when players would connect to the lobby. This bug was only a minor setback and was resolved later in the week. Next, we will probably be working on other functions in the radial menu, more specific permissions, touching up the user interface, etc.
Thanks for reading, I hope this was an interesting glimpse into what we do on a weekly basis. I can't wait to show you what we’ve got coming next! Stay tuned and see you next week!
