Thank you for all the input! A lot of you voted in the Facebook group (and I do mean: a lot!), and the results were conclusively inconclusive - half of you preferred the old one, the other half preferred the new one. The reasoning of both sides was equally convincing (and sometimes even overlapped).
Therefore we had a tough decision on our hands; however, despite it being the most work-intensive for us - basically doubling our workload for every map hereafter - there will be TWO map modes to choose from, the basic top-down view close to the original and the more modern, 3D Crusader Kings-esque approach. The two options will be available from the options menu and swappable at will.
This resolution is thanks to all your votes - you made a difference!
