Hello, Mercs!
Welcome to the second episode of the Nine to Five equipment showcase!
Nine to Five battlegrounds are unpredictable and extremely dangerous, mercenaries must stay on their toes to survive and, more importantly, to complete corporate tasks!
In this hostile and punishing working environment, you cannot rely solely on your guns. Heck, even your teammates can act as wild cards sometimes. But we can assure you, one additional medical station or a laser mine found in your back pocket can tip the scale in your favor and help overthrow the competition.

So, when packing for your next business trip, consider carefully if you want heavier armor or if it's better to save extra room for a Firestarter... Remember, fortune favors the brave, but corporate favors the resourceful.
And if you agree that traveling light is for trainees and amateurs, good news! Corporate has you covered — we've got gadgets and gizmos for all intents and purposes!
Do you want to blow things up? Burn them down? How about something less lethal? Use flash grenades to distract and disorient enemies! Or heal your colleagues and yourself with the medical station and first aid kit! Fortify and defend your position with heavy barricades, shields, turrets and trip mines, not even airborne competitors could get the jump on you!
In Nine to Five, each item offers unique tactics and can be used in many ways. But in this article, we will focus on some of the deadliest items in a merc’s armory: lethal grenades!
The two lethal grenades available in Nine to Five are the Frag Grenade and the Firestarter, and they both work in the same way: just throw it at the enemy and watch it explode. These grenades are very easy to use and make a great addition to any loadout, no matter if you are a trainee or a senior mercenary.
Frag Grenade
The Frag grenade is a mercenary's life-long friend, a reliable companion that never lets you down. It is also the very first item that you get when you start your Nine to Five job.
The frag is extremely user-friendly, you just pull the safety pin out and throw it towards the enemy. Make sure to lob it away from your teammates! You see, lethal grenades are among the few things that can actually damage your colleagues, so handle your frags with care!
As many things in Nine to Five are, frag grenades are straightforward to use and require little to no guidance, but if you want to master the craft, you must practice your pitch!
If you want to make things harder for yourself, you can hold on to a grenade before throwing it. Simply put, you can cook the frag in your hands and if you time it properly, it will detonate even before hitting the ground, instantly eliminating every competitor in its vicinity. However, if you hold on to the frag grenade for too long... Especially when you are standing right next to your buddies... Let's say, it will lead to deplorable consequences.
Firestarter
I'm a Firestarter, twisted Firestarter,
You're a Firestarter, twisted Firestarter…
- The Prodigy
Just like Frag Grenades, to use the Firestarter, you must hurl it. But unlike the Frag, it doesn’t just explode, being an incendiary grenade, it ignites and burns anyone within its fiery radius.
Firestarter won’t instantly kill an enemy, but over time it will cause a lot of damage if the opposition chooses to remain in the flames…
The Firestarter is a great tool for both defensive and offensive tactics. Its wide area of effect and long fire duration make it extremely powerful within confined spaces like buildings or fortified objectives. If used for defense, the flames are excellent for temporarily preventing enemies from rushing important areas or objectives; offensively, the Firestarter can be thrown at the entrenched enemies, forcing them to come out or fry to a crisp.
Just throwing in a Firestarter is an excellent tactic on its own, but if you want to get creative, try combining it with a Gas Grenade from the Special Ops item category. For example, if you see the competing team hugging an objective, hiding behind tough shields and impenetrable barricades, surrounded by deadly mines and turrets, there is no need to go headlong looking for trouble. All you have to do is find a small crack in the wall, send in a Gas Grenade, and follow with a cheeky Firestarter. This simple, but effective combination will create a massive explosion that will surely launch your enemies into eternity.
This also makes a great team-building exercise! Ask one of your colleagues to bring along the gas, while the other one takes the Firestarter; this will encourage your team to work together, form trust, and support each other’s strengths! And “well done” enemies will be a great motivation!
Alternatively, you can act proactively, take the lead, and bring both the Gas Grenades and the Firestarter with you, luckily corporate supplies armor sets with both Lethal and Spec Ops grenades included.
But wait a minute! Everything mentioned above might make you think that Firestarter is all powerful and eternal. Well, that is not entirely true… If your enemies pack some smoke grenades, you are very much in trouble. The Firestarter has one weakness, and it can be easily extinguished by throwing a smoke grenade over it... But that is not likely to happen, right? Right?!
