December 2015, 10 years ago, was the month “Counter Blocks” was first released. Then, about 5 years later in October 2020, we released a remake version here on Steam. Now that the 10th anniversary milestone has arrived, I feel bad that I haven't prepared anything special, so I'd like to at least hold a sale I've never done before.
While I believed I gave it my absolute best 10 years ago and again 5 years ago, playing it now makes me realize it's a game with noticeable rough points. The fact that it only sold 15 copies on Steam over 5 years objectively highlights that I failed to create an appealing game. Sometimes I think this shouldn't have been released. But just as the fact that I released the game remains, so too do the experiences of the days I dedicated to it. They will never be erased. Based on what I learned there, I hope to give feedback in some form someday.
Development of this game has been frozen for quite some time, and there are currently no plans for updates unless critical bugs arise. But ideas still keep popping into my head one after another. Things like, “It should be changed”, “Want to add this feature”, or “No, want to add new content”...
I still hold a strong hope to make them a reality someday. For those who have already played this game, for those who have found interest in it, and for myself.
...Well then, If your interest in the game, here's one advice.
I seem to have made this game far too unique. Even players confident in their gaming skills might feel like they're riding a bike for the very first time. Recognizing both the incoming “bullets” and the bouncing “balls” simultaneously actually requires a fair amount of practice.
But once you get the hang of it, the path will surely become clear. I wish I could have made that path easier to see... I'm sorry, but you'll have to figure it out on your own.
