The first jet-powered fighter in the history of human aviation to see actual combat was Germany’s Messerschmitt Me-262. Although a lack of fuel prevented the Me-262 from realizing its full potential, it still managed to shoot down 509 enemy aircraft over the course of World War II, and had a significant impact on the development of post-war fighter jets, and the MiG jets of the former Soviet Union were no exception.

Tier I - MiG-15
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 was a first-generation fighter jet developed by the Soviets in the late 1940s. Over 18,000 MiG-15s have been produced, and it has been used by over 38 countries, including the Soviet Union, Poland, Czechoslovakia, China, Bulgaria, Egypt, and Algeria. During the Korean War in the early 1950s, the MiG-15 was the first fighter jet to see large-scale use in warfare. In Iron Conflict, the MiG-15 is equipped with an N-37 37mm cannon, used mainly for air-to-air combat, and 100kg bombs (FAB-100 M-43).

Tier II - MiG-15bis
The MiG-15bis is an improved model of the original MiG-15. Fitted with a Klimov VK-1 engine capable of 2700kg of thrust, it features improved flight performance, and is a bit heavier than its predecessor. Its size has also been changed, and its wing fence contains a gap, whereas the MiG-15 does not. The MiG-15bis can carry a variety of weapons (bombs or 57mm rockets) to complete various tasks such as interception, escort, reconnaissance, and tactical bombing in complex weather situations or even at night. In Iron Conflict, the MiG-15bis can carry air-to-ground rockets, increasing its capabilities against ground units.

Tier III - MiG-21
The MiG-21 is a second-generation Soviet supersonic fighter jet. It adopts a single-seater delta wing aerodynamic layout, is equipped with a turbojet engine, and was developed based upon the experience of jet fighters in the Korean War. It excels at high-altitude and high-speed interception and reconnaissance, but can also be used for ground attacks. The MiG-21 is lightweight, flexible, fast-climbing, and has good supersonic maneuverability as well as strong firepower. In Iron Conflict, the MiG-21 fighter is equipped with air-to-air missiles, enhancing its air combat capabilities over its predecessors.

Tier IV - MiG-21bis
The MiG-21bis is a third-generation multi-purpose air combat/ground attack jet debuted in the 1970s. It uses a P-25 turbojet engine, with an afterburner thrust of 69.62kN (7100kg). Its structure and electronic equipment are improved and its dorsal fin is wider and taller than the MiG-21MF’s. Its maximum speed at high altitude is Mach 2.2, and it is equipped with 4 missiles and a GSh-23 twin-barrel cannon. In Iron Conflict, the MiG-21bis uses a Tumansky R-25-300 engine and can be outfitted with air-to-air missiles.
