TOS-2 Reporting for Battle! Bear Faction Artillery Preview II
In the Caucasus 2020 military exercise, the Russian army used the brand-new TOS-2 heavy rocket launcher for the first time, the most advanced Russian multiple rocket launcher system yet, proving that multiple rocket launchers still form an integral part of the Russian military force. This unit will be making its debut in Iron Conflict as part of the Bear Faction, representing their fearsome fighting might.

Tier 5 - BM-30 Smerch
The BM-30 Smerch is a rocket launcher system and follow-up to the BM-13 Katyusha and the BM-21 Grad. The Grad was stable enough to see wide adoption across over 56 countries, enjoying an influence on par with that of the AK-47. However, it wasn’t long before it was surpassed by the US’s M270 rocket system. Although the range of the M270 was the same as that of the Grad, its degree of automation far exceeded it. The M270 showed what it was truly capable of during Operation Desert Storm, leaving Russia in the dust, as far as multiple rocket launchers were concerned. In turn, Russia introduced the BM-30 Smerch multiple rocket launcher. In Iron Conflict, the Smerch is a 300mm rocket launcher, featuring heavier firepower than both the Grad and the BM-27 Uragan. It also uses a diesel engine instead of a gasoline engine, giving it more mobility.

Tier 6 - TOS-1
The TOS-1 rocket launcher is a 220mm 30-barrel heavy-duty long-range multiple rocket launcher based on the T-72 tank chassis, equipped with incendiary bombs and thermobaric warheads, and developed by the Soviet Union in the late 1970s. It was designed as a lightly armored self-propelled rocket launcher to be used as a defensive unit in open areas, and first saw combat in the Panjshir valley during the Soviet-Afghan War. For a long time, it was a secret project, and only made its public debut in 1999 in Omsk. In Iron Conflict, the TOS-1 is the first treaded mobile rocket launcher in the Bear Faction. Due to its tank chassis, it features better protection than lower-tier units on the tech tree.

Tier 7 - Tornado S
The 9A53-S “Tornado S” multiple rocket launcher is the most powerful and versatile long-range multiple rocket launcher system in the world. This model was designed to replace the BM-21 Grad, BM-27 Uragan, and BM-30 Smerch rocket launchers. The 9A53-S system is installed on a MZKT-79306 8x8 military truck chassis, which has good tactical maneuverability, and the system itself is an upgraded version of the 300mm BM-30 Smerch multi-tube rocket system. In contrast to traditional Soviet rocket launchers, it uses a modular box launcher, and is compatible with rockets of different calibers and even tactical ballistic missiles. It is capable of using all types of weapons that the Uragan can use, including HE-FRAG, incendiary bombs, thermobaric bombs, and anti-personnel/anti-tank mine cluster bombs. In Iron Conflict, due to the fact that it is an upgraded version of the Smerch, the Tornado also uses a 300mm rocket launcher, but features greater mobility.

Tier 8 - TOS-2
The TOS-2 is the successor to the TOS-1A, with stronger combat power. Unlike the TOS-1A, which is mounted on a treaded chassis, the TOS-2 is mounted on an all-terrain vehicle. It has a longer range, and its aiming, launching, and fire control are fully automatic. It is equipped with its own crane, so it doesn’t need to be reloaded by a separate vehicle. In addition, it is also equipped with a defense system to protect it against precision-guided weapons. In Iron Conflict, the TOS-2 features improved deployment capabilities compared to the TOS-1, and has an improved reloading speed.
In addition to these rocket launchers, the Bear Faction will also feature distinctive tanks, including the first tank in the world to use a smoothbore gun. Stay tuned for more info!
