Commanders!
Since Iron Conflict’s release into Early Access on Steam on January 8th, we’ve been releasing weekly updates not only to incorporate bug fixes and address player feedback, but also to add new content into the game. Two weeks ago, we added the Dustwater map. Now we’re thrilled to officially announce that next week, on February 4, we’ll start adding helicopter units to the game. First up will be the Dragon Faction helicopters, with the Eagle Faction helicopters to follow shortly thereafter.

(Dragon Faction Helicopters)
The Dragon Faction’s attack helicopters will be found on Tiers 6-8. They are the WZ-9, WZ-10, and WZ-19 helicopters. These units specialize in close-range damage against ground units, while their defenses are stronger than other airborne units. This makes them especially effective against tanks, managing enemy ground-based firepower, and for surprise attacks against scattered ground units. While largely acting as a deterrent against ground forces, these units also possess the ability to battle other helicopters. Another thing that separates helicopters from other airborne units in the current version is that equipping them with weapons systems will result in visual changes to the unit’s model.

(Dragon Faction Aircraft Tree)
The WZ-9 is a multi-purpose helicopter with light weaponry. It can be used for both air defense and attacks on the ground. In Iron Conflict, the WZ-9 has 1 special accessory slot. According to their needs, players can select from HJ-8 air-to-surface anti-tank missiles, TY-90 air-to-air missiles, and HF-7D or HF-25 rocket pylons. The WZ-9’s armor is relatively weak, however. When using this unit in combat, you’ll need to pay close attention to the enemy’s anti-air situation.

(WZ-9)
Next up is the WZ-10. Thanks to technological breakthroughs in engine and bulletproof armor weight reduction, the overall performance of the WZ-10 is greatly improved compared to the WZ-9. In the game, the WZ-10 is equipped with a rotating autocannon and 2 special accessory slots. You can choose from HJ-9 air-to-surface anti-tank missiles, TY-90 air-to-air missiles, and HF-7D or HF-25 rocket pylons. As a moderately-armed helicopter obvious armor improvements, it features some amount of survivability in combat situations.

(WZ-10)
The WZ-19 “Black Whirlwind” is smaller than the WZ-10. While mainly used to provide supportive firepower against enemy tanks and armored ground units, it can also be used to attack enemy helicopters and secure low-altitude air superiority, allowing friendly ground forces to advance. In Iron Conflict, the WZ-19 has 2 special accessory slots. These include the same weapon systems as the WZ-10, but the WZ-19 has differences in visual range, defense, firepower, and concealment stats.

(WZ-19)
In addition to the Dragon Faction helicopter units, the February 4th v0.1.0 update will also include major improvements to unit balance, UI, and in-game sound effects. The Eagle Faction will be receiving Tier 6-8 Cobra helicopters in the middle of February. Specifics will be announced closer to that date.
See you on the battlefield!
