Firefighters!
Fire is a peculiar enemy to fight in a game. Is it even an enemy? It doesn’t have an artificial intelligence or a goal. It just… is. And it spreads in any manner it can., destroying everything in its way.
We treat it as an enemy as it’s your direct target and opposition, and we’ve made sure that despite being an unmotivated force, it can surprise you and react to what you do. In the game, every surface is different, and it reacts differently to fire. It can combust easily or not at all. It can burn quickly or for a prolonged period. It can emit smoke or toxic fumes, et cetera.
There are different ways to extinguish the fire, depending on its type. You won’t put out an electric fire using water, for example. And if you start fighting it in one place, it can take a different route in some other part of the map. This makes fire a respectable enemy, and one that can make different playthroughs quite unique. Ultimately, how fire acts depends largely on you!
