...What's my opinion on socks and sandals you ask?

Shock Horror! What is this - a crime scene?! Socks and sandals is never a good look... especially with white socks. If you're going to wear the socks and - urgh - sandals combo, try to at least complement the sandal... with a fetching small side bow ankle sock. Not some hefty sports sock that consumes your calves!
So do that or burn the sandals and by yourself some high-tops.
