Over the past few weeks, I've been hard at work planning the outer ring of the main habitation areas on the ship. This has proven to be quite a challenge because unlike the central part of the saucer, the outer areas are mostly large two-story rooms of various sizes.
The hardest area to fit in seamlessly has been the shuttle bay because, in contrast to the mathematically calculated ring sections of the main saucer, it's very much like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Almost literally in fact! But, after much trial and error, I've settled on a design that is both practical and functional, and I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like with all the internal decor in place.

This is still very much a work in progress, but what we should end up with is 6 dedicated parking bays for various types of craft. There will likely be two crew means of transport, some small utility craft, a Mining/Resource Gathering craft, and a place to repair or construct new craft should the need arise.

Repairing or manufacturing anything in the game will use up raw materials, so the parking bay for the mining craft will have the infrastructure in place to extract the materials and place them in storage containers for future use. This will predominantly be for the 3D printers on the ship, which is how you'll make new parts etc.

The shuttle bay will also have a seating area and viewing gallery on either side, and at the end of these will be a small maintenance airlock for accessing the upper hull on foot. This will be needed for some Engineer tasks, or if you simply want to go for a stroll to get a much better view of the planet you're orbiting ;P
