Howdy partner,
Hope you’re doing well and looking forward to settling the frontier! To ease the waiting, we thought that it would be nice to show you what we are working on in the meantime. Wild West Dynasty is still in their early stages of production, but it doesn’t mean that the work is not progressing. With this update we are starting our new Monthly Update series in which we will be showing you our progress. We hope that with these updates, we can bring you into our studio and our workflow. So, without further ado, let’s get straight into this month's progress update!
One of the things that our concept artists worked on lately are Wild West Dynasty concept art. These drawings are the starting blocks for our game’s visual design and identity. Our artists made, and will still make more of them as our production continues. Below are a few concept art pieces of clothing. Since Wild West Dynasty is based on a specific period of time and history, we’ve collected quite a lot of historical materials as references. We’ve also dug through a lot of historical documents to see how people would wear these clothes, who would wear these clothes, what they were made off, etc etc. These drawings below are the results of this work. We hope you'll like them.

Outfits based on original clothing from wild west times is not the only tasks that we’ve been working on. One of the most important things in our game will be the world itself, aka, the map. Deserts, challenging spaces, canyons, rivers, mountains and cliffs, they all have a place somewhere in our world. We started the process of environment creation with a bit of dexterity and spatial imagination. We took all those lessons that we’ve learned as kids, and we let our imagination go free. We bought a whole stack of LEGO bricks and we built the map mock-up using our favourite plastic bricks! It took a good amount of hours of building, but it was worth it. Not only do we have a visual guide, but it also allowed us to talk through the process as well - why are the mountains here, why is the river there, etc etc.

And here is our LEGO map, inside the engine! And who says that playing with LEGO is a waste of time...
Ok, it seems that this is a good place to wrap the update up! We worked on other things too but we don’t want to show you too much. There’s nothing worse than an unwanted spoiler ;). We know that there are still a lot of hours of hard work ahead of us, but we’re full of enthusiasm and drive. We are adding something new to the game every day, and that feels nice, for the lack of a better word. It’s nice seeing progress in front of us.
Let us know if you would like to see more of these types of updates. And do let us know what you think of our concept pieces and our LEGO map too! That free space for your comment below is waiting, so let us know your thoughts. Stay in touch and add us to your Wishlist. We have a lot more upcoming goodies that we want to share with you.
Until next time cowboys and cowgirls!
Yours,
Virtual Magic Games and Toplitz Productions Teams
