Greetings, associate!
Previously, we've only talked about weapons that already exist in our world or will do so in the foreseeable future. Today, we're talking about a very popular futuristic weapon that can exist only in theory, as any hardcore and heartbroken fan will tell you. Time to talk about the lightsaber.

The lightsaber was first described in 1933 by Edmond Hamilton in the story Kaldar: World of Antares, and has since appeared in numerous works of fiction. Despite attempts by fans of various franchises, as well as military developments, there has yet to be a single working prototype of such a weapon.
You're already familiar with laser weapons and how they work: they fire a powerful beam over a huge distance, hitting everything in their path. This makes the lightsaber impossible in the real world – light cannot be "cut off" or have the specific, convenient length typical of swords (which also ensures the safety of whoever's using it). They also can't be solid, as depicted in Star Wars. And while the sword uses plasma rather than a laser, it is not possible to combine the two states of matter.

In Revival: Recolonization, the lightsaber is the only fourth-era melee weapon and is used for rear defense. Though equipped with advanced firearms, your fighters are still vulnerable if the enemy gets close to them. That is where lightsaber-wielding troops come in!
Lightsabers can also be used to break through enemy lines. Like laser guns, they ignore cover and ignite targets, enabling them to inflict significant damage even on well-defended units. The wound from the weapon itself may be minor, but a unit set on fire by a lightsaber can die within a few turns. Facing such enemies in battle requires a tactical approach—it's wise to avoid melee combat or be ready to put out burning soldiers. And no, elephant trunks can't be used as fire hoses, despite what the cartoons show you ;)
Respectfully,
Revival: Recolonization Team
