皆さん、こんにちは! It took us some time to process your feedback on the very first Blind Fate: Edo no Yami demo, but we are now finally ready to answer your questions.
In this article, we’d like to address some of the concerns most frequently voiced via the feedback form and give a brief account of the current state of Blind Fate: Edo no Yami development as well as our plans for the future.
In case you missed PAX Online 2021 and haven’t tried the Edo no Yami demo yet, we suggest you click the “Wishlist” and “Follow” buttons on our official Steam page so that you will be notified when the demo becomes available again as part of the gamescom 2021 event.
All right, enough with the introduction! Moving on to your feedback.
Controls & controller support
Players can choose the preferred method for playing Blind Fate: Edo no Yami: with mouse and keyboard or with any of the supported controller models, though we genuinely suggest using a controller for the best gaming experience possible.

Some of the early beta players reported problems with Xbox controllers, while others mentioned they would love to have a way of rebinding keys. The latter option has already been implemented, so we hope to hear about your updated experience once the latest demo has been released.
Technical issues, optimization, and performance
The game is mid-way through the development process and still has about half a year ahead of it, so we’re currently focusing on essential features, combat mechanics, etc. Once those are ready, we’ll move on to polishing and optimizing the game. Regarding minor technical issues such as FPS drops, you can expect them cleaned up in the next demo.
Combat mechanics
We have received numerous questions and suggestions from early demo players regarding combat mechanics and whether we plan to improve them. Obviously, having a fluid combat system and responsive controls is essential for an action platformer, so you can believe we have studied dozens of games from the same genre, aiming to learn from the best!

Players will be able to unlock dozens of special moves later in the game (stomps, dashes, dodges, special katana attacks, special cannon shots, etc.) by upgrading Yami’s skills at the Skill Tree. “Will it be possible to throw an enemy into the air?” you may ask. Yes, it totally will be with the Uppercut move. “What about dodging and counter-attacking after a parry?” Yes, we’re working on those as well!
Several users mentioned that performing finishers takes too much time, so we would like to address this point next. Finishers are not mandatory, it’s something that players can use to kill enemies in the most cinematic way possible, provided they have collected 100% of the data for the particular enemy type. Every finisher is a QTE (Quick Time Event) sequence and requires direct player input. This is why finishers are bound to take a bit of time, and it will most likely stay this way in the full version of the game.
What will be improved in the future, however, is the timing for parrying attacks and the lack of feedback from certain in-game opponents.
Difficulty level
Blind Fate: Edo no Yami was never envisioned as a proverbial walk in the park. You are a BLIND samurai fighting for justice in a ruthless post-apocalyptic world, after all! We understand that some players want to speedrun the game while slashing enemies left and right, but we also want the project to offer a degree of challenge! Different levels of difficulty are planned for the final release, offering players a chance to learn the intricacies of battle through gameplay and in-game tips.

Official soundtrack and localization
Don't worry, we have this aspect of the game covered! If you have followed Blind Fate: Edo no Yami for some time now, you probably know that we partnered with an incredibly talented composer and sound designer, Joe Kataldo, who not only helped us with the previous project Hyperparasite but also has extensive experience working on TV and numerous gaming projects, including Terminator: Salvation VR.
Currently, we’re finishing the game’s powerful main theme that shall feature world-class cellist Tina Guo. Here’s a sneak peek (please, press on the button below to watch a Twitter video):
We are thrilled to confirm that Blind Fate: Edo no Yami will not only be fully localized into Japanese but also feature a dozen other languages - all of the supported languages are currently listed on the Blind Fate: Edo no Yami Steam page.
