Message from the developers
Hello everyone and thank you for getting involved in this project!
We have been hard at work collecting information, both user reported/suggested and auto generated via diagnostics. There have been a few child sicknesses including one major blunder that affected the live version for a few hours Sunday afternoon GMT (deeply sorry about that, if your game crashed during that window odds are it was both completely unnecessary and one hundred percent my fault. I screwed the pooch).
As an avid player of these types of games ourselves we are familiar with the struggles these types of projects often face. With this message and accompanying patch notes we want to show you the level of transparency you can and should expect from us going into the future.
Feel free to reach out and ask us anything, either here on Steam, the in game feedback menu which goes straight to my phone notifications, our Subreddit r/AGameofHumans, Facebook or directly at contact@scionstudios.
Thank you reading! None of this would be possible without people like you.
Features
- Added support for various Screen modes (windowed, maximized windowed, fullscreen and exclusive fullscreen)
- Added support for toggling the game to run in background (e.g. tabbed out, not in focus) or to pause.
- Added support for vertical sync (be warned that some machines appear to stutter due to this, we have contacted Unity support over this issue).
- Added support for toggling Screen Space Ray Tracing on and off (greatly improved contact shadows and light bleeding at the cost of performance).
- Added the cost to destroy a plot to the plot inspector.
- Added the cost to construct a house to the plot inspector.
- Split the plot inspectors into different objects instead of a general one, allowing for the display of only the information relevant to the specific plot.
General
- Added version number to the main menu.
- New builds will automatically increment the version number.
- Characters will now spawn with a wider range of coins, some will be wealthier than others.
- Prayers now only add faith equal to the missing % of spiritual need instead of a flat value.
- Characters now prioritize socializing with other characters with a low social need (previously everyone would attempt to talk to popular people, e.g. attractive happy people, rendering them incapable of performing work due to their sheer popularity).
Maps
- Altered the Berghfoot map generation settings so that it is unlikely to generate a long, unassailable ridge which the intelligent characters of the world does not take into account when they decide how close they are to a potential berry bush.
- Tip: If you want to make your own maps before official tools exist, head over into "Steam/steamapps/common/A Game of Humans/AGameofHumans_Data/StreamingAssets/Maps", duplicate and rename one of the existing files and get to editing. As it is not a user friendly format but a computer generated one you will need to be very carefully follow how the files look but as they are very small it should hopefully not be too difficult :)
Diagnostics
- Improved diagnostics tools resulting in better auto-generated crash reports.
- Sending a bug report through the feedback menu will now automatically include all relevant system information.
- Added a bunch of diagnostic hooks into various processes to catch previously unfound errors (most notably in the save & load process)
Localization
- Added localization for crops
Bugfixes
- Reverted from DX12 to DX11 as testing seems to have verified that a majority of the crashes simply vanished with this change. We are in contact with Unity support to see if the issue can be resolved (DX12 provides greater performance and as such we would prefer to use it)
- Changing the in game language should no longer cause AutoSave and QuickSave to crash upon their activation (even changing from English to English caused this).
- Music should no longer change track upon tabbing in and out if run in background is disabled.
- Attempting to add coins to an entity that ceased to exist during the process will now default the coins to the player instead (death taxes yay).
- Fixed an issue with items attached to a character and animations fading between each other causing an out of bounds index and thus a crash.
- Fixed an issue where the wrong character would be paid for the sale of a wood log.
- Fixed an issue where saving during an ongoing construction process could cause a crash.
- Fixed an issue where items placed in objects could cause a crash if multiple characters accessed the object at the same time.
- Deleting a house plot before the immigrant heading towards it reached it should no longer cause incorrect behavior.
