Hello everyone,
Welcome to the next Realpolitiks II developer blog! This time we are focusing on espionage and how you can use it to gain more information on your opponents. Let’s dive in:
Recruit spies and develop intelligence agencies
Politics in the real world as well as in Realpolitiks II could not exist without some form of espionage. In the second installment we developed and enhanced the intelligence mechanics by adding spy units that can play a pivotal role in knowing what your opponents are doing and whether or not you should feel threatened. Spies' abilities, their number, movement speed, preparation time, and mission execution depend on the amount of time and resources you have invested in the intelligence agency. The spy network can be developed either through buildings or projects (please note though that the project window is not final).

Lead the spies
Each spy is an individual unit on the map that you can send out on a mission. After reaching its destination, the spy begins to prepare for the mission, creating spy networks, and infiltrating the enemy structures gaining espionage points over time. The more points he gets, the more powerful actions he will be able to perform and the greater the likelihood of successful actions. Also, the more spies in the same place, the faster you earn espionage points. Enemy spies can slow down the infiltration, or even completely prevent it - in which case the only solution is to carry out the mission elsewhere.
The spy has a full name and an avatar that you can modify in any way during the game. Recruited spies have a name and surname typical for a given country or culture - for example, when playing as the United States you will not find Chinese names among your spies.

Gain experience and skills
Each spy gains experience points for completed missions, which will allow him to level up and gain additional skills, including the ability to perform new missions. Spies can reach 6 levels, and with each level you will have to choose one of two randomly chosen skills. There are around 80 unique skills in total, so to benefit from all of them you will need an army of well-trained agents. Lots of options here!

Conduct intelligence and counterintelligence activities
You can use spies in two ways - to fight your enemies or to strengthen your power in the country. Each spy has two independent paths of development - intelligence and counter-intelligence. Depending on whether you use the spy to counteract hostile actions in your country or to weaken your enemies, the development will progress in a specific direction. The action repertoire includes about 80 activities, such as:
- Intimidating Politicians
- Manipulating the Stock Exchange
- Faking an Assassination
- Compromising the Government
- LGBT Promotion
- Conspiring with Communists
- Troll Hiring

Mod Tool
With the modding tool you can edit every aspect of the spy. You decide on the number of levels, experience points, skills, and spy actions. There will also be an editor for names and surnames for a given country or culture, which will enable you to modify the lists of names randomly assigned to characters from the game. For each action you will be able to set the effects, requirements, costs, and description.
That’s it! This concludes the development blog and we would like to know your thoughts on the espionage system? Any strategies to conquer your opponents? Let us know in the comments! Also please add Realpolitiks II to your wishlist as it helps us a ton! Thank you!
Thank you for reading and we will see you in the next one!
