It was very cool to see Severed Steel appear in some end of year 'Best of 2021' editorial pieces, and in the spirit of self-indulgence, we wanted to share them with you here.
BEST FPS GAMES OF 2021 - Screen Rant
'Severed Steel is like if The Matrix, Mirrors Edge, and Superhot all had a baby that somehow defied everything humanity knows about biology. Using a combination of parkour and slow-motion gunplay, developer Greylock Studio creates a beautiful harmony in its gameplay. A number of developers have tried to do this kind of gameplay before, but few have done it as well as Severed Steel. There are few other shooters like it this year which helps cement it as one of 2021's best indie games as well.'
10 Most Underrated Games of 2021 – Cultured Vultures
'Features a one-armed protagonist kicking ass, blasting bad guys left, right and centre... also boasts enhanced traversal and bullet time mechanics, letting you interact with the environment in cool ways. If that’s not good enough, the voxel graphics and destruction mechanics mean you can cut your own hole through the levels instead.'
INDIE PICKS OF 2021 – Dominic Tarason (RPS, PC Gamer, PC GamesN)
'A fantastic bullet-time arcade FPS inspired by Max Payne and FEAR... you’ll be constantly switching weapons as you wall-run, slide under tables and dive through windows in slow motion. Blast a guy with a shotgun, pull the pistol from another guy’s holster, use that to take out a sniper and catch the falling weapon all in one balletic combo.'
GABBIN+GAMES GAME OF THE YEAR – David Jaffe (God of War, Twisted Metal)
BONUS COVERAGE!
In addition to the end of year trumpet tooting, Severed Steel's director/developer, Matt Larrabee, was interviewed by Unreal. You can read the whole thing here.
We're looking forward to a great 2022 – there's more campaign content landing later this month, and some level editor extras coming in March. And, of course, we'll be launching Severed Steel on consoles! We'll be sure to keep you updated right here. Thanks for your continued support!
