Hey! My name is Andrey, and I'm the community manager for Cartel Tycoon. Our next major update is in the works, so we decided that it’s a perfect time to answer your questions about the future of Cartel Tycoon! And that's what we're doing today! We've gathered these questions on our socials and our Discord - be sure to join if you don't want to miss our next Q&A session! Let's get right into it.
The first question comes from the Discord user Kenny K-Man: “Do we plan to have real-life drug lords? If not, what's the reason behind it?” When developing Cartel Tycoon, we were mainly inspired by fiction about real-life drug lords and events, and that's what our game is - fiction. If we start adding real people and events, we risk not being historically accurate enough, and we don't want that to happen. That's why we choose to be inspired while remaining in the world of fiction!
Connor B asks: “Can you clarify or at least hint at what each of the new locations will do, and do you think they will be best-utilized late-game, or will players be able to make the most of them early on?” As I said at the start, the Special Buildings are in active development: we're constantly experimenting with functions and will share more soon. For now, most of the buildings will be very helpful at the start and mid-game while still being useful in the late-game. For example, Prison will let you keep and upgrade your Lieutenants while they're not a part of the Cartel! And their Prison term can lower Terror! If you want to bring your Lieutenant back to Cartel before his term ends, it will cost you a good chunk of your money. For other buildings, we can show you their UI in development!
The next question is from Akiliah: “Do you think the logistic part will be more "manageable" with charts about productivity, efficiency... etc.”? We plan to add more info and statistics to Cartel Tycoon. For example, in the next update, we'll update our financial menu with more stats! We're also working on adding more statistics to our buildings, but we haven't seen a lot of community requests for it, so it's in the backlog for now.
Zipprian asks: “Do you plan to address the lack of challenge of late-game with new content”? Right now, for example, we're reworking attack logic for different Terror Stars. We were inspired by the second half of the “That Sinking Feeling” campaign. This change will heavily impact the mid and late-game and make them more exciting and challenging!
“What do you think about an option to add a grid when building something?” Er Darktopi asks. We've got a lot of requests and questions from the players, who want their empires to look precise! The good news, we've been working on a design for this kind of grid for quite some time. Bad news, we don't think it will be an ideal solution. Right now, the idea we’re working on is allowing players to align buildings to each other, and we believe it will be a great start!
“when will be multiplayer.” We're working hard to bring co-op multiplayer with the release of Cartel Tycoon 1.0 in 2022, and we’re excited for you to try it out with your friends when it’s ready!
From Antonis Lazaridis: “Are you planning on bringing Cartel Tycoon to consoles? Also, are you friends with any Cartel Drug Lords”? We’re doing some preparations for the potential console release, but right now, our main priority is releasing 1.0 on PC! As for drug lords, no, we don't know anyone; we just enjoy the fiction - we're not a laundering company for a Columbian cartel, we swear!
raforr: "Will there be enough lieutenants with that infamous ability to cover all cities"?
Well, raforr, I'm not sure if you're joking or just a fan of suffering in video games, so I'll tell you this: we're working on the Terror mechanic, making it more complex than it is now - so the players with high Terror can get some bonuses in mid-game and late-game.
Alex Wolf writes: "Would there be a steam workshop for the game?"
Thanks for asking, Alex! We get that question a lot, but we weren’t planning on adding Steam Workshop before the full release of Cartel Tycoon. But we’ve got an idea to add custom lieutenants to the Workshop after the 1.0 release! Just imagine: leading a Cartel with Mario…
victor_navarro_037 asks: "Will you guys add more enemy cartels and mention some iconic leaders from that time"?
As for the iconic leaders, we've already answered that above. As for the gangs, we're reworking their mechanics completely. We'll add gang leaders to the cities, and the player will be able to talk to them and make deals or, you know, destroy and burn them to the ground, yay!
And finally, Comrade asks: "What are your expectations about the game, about how it is going to be in the long run? What about the co-op mode? How will it work?"
First of all, we want to work on replayability and balance. Make the late-game better and more variable. We have a couple of cool ideas for future DLCs—for example, a new map and a campaign about the Mexican Cartel Wars. As for the co-op mode, the idea is to give players control of the same Cartel. Surely, there will be no betrayals! Also, we're working on the concept of Online PvP with matchmaking and unique rewards! All in all, this stuff and other ideas cover a year after the full release!
Whew, that was a long one, but I hope you found it insightful and exciting! And if you did: we'll be doing these kinds of videos in the future!
