⚒ Devlog: Raising Walls in Medieval Frontiers – Crafting, Timber by Timber
Well met, settlers of the frontier!
Today we bring tidings from the construction yard — a closer look at the heart of craftsmanship in Medieval Frontiers. When you raise a hall, a homestead, or a complete settlement in these wild lands, know this: it is your own hand that builds it, beam by beam, stone by stone.
A Builder’s Journey – No Clicks, Only Craft
In Medieval Frontiers, we do not conjure houses with a single command. Nay — we build them as our forebears did: piece by piece. Each structure is born of your labor and your tools. When you place a wall, what you see is not a finished shape, but the beginning of a process:
The great wooden beams are first laid, forming the bones of your structure.
Next, connecting timbers are hammered into place, locking the frame together.
Wattle and boards fill the gaps, shaping walls and doorways.
At last, stones are set, sealing the frame into a strong, lasting wall.
All this unfolds before your eyes, from your own hands, with hammer in hand and sweat on brow. As you build, the structure takes shape before you — real, rough, and rising with each blow of your mallet.
Gather with Purpose
In many lands beyond the frontier, builders are left to stumble — gathering too much, or too little, unsure what their next wall or roof might demand. But in Medieval Frontiers, such waste is banished.
When you mark a construction site, it shall be etched into your memory — and displayed upon thy HUD. From that moment on, the needs of the structure are made plain: how many logs, how many stones, how much iron. No more guesswork, no more burdening thy back with unneeded weight.
Every journey to the forest, every haul from the hills is guided with intent. The builder knows what he seeks, and returns with purpose — not in folly. 'Tis a simple thing, yet it brings order to the chaos of construction.
A Home Is More Than Walls
Once your walls rise and your roof stands strong, you may furnish your dwelling as you see fit. Tables, chests, workbenches, and hearths — all may be placed freely within your home. Should you move a piece close to a wall, it shall snap into place with purpose, adopting a form that suits its surroundings. For each furnishing bears two faces — one for open space, and one for the wall — so that your homestead remains not only practical, but pleasing to the eye.
Whether you're placing a rugged workbench against a timber beam or setting a freestanding table by the hearth, your home shall reflect your own vision and taste.
Of Great Halls and Humble Huts Alike
Whether you build a humble woodshed or a towering longhall, the craft remains ever the same. No incantation will raise your roof, no spell will lay your stone. Each beam is set by your own hand, each wall forged through honest toil.
But even the strongest arms may falter beneath the weight of greater works. And so, should your ambition stretch beyond your strength, you must brave the wilds — for there, amid ruin and wilderness, you may find others in need.
They are survivors, their villages burned, their homes lost to war or worse. Scattered across the frontier, they cling to life in hidden glades, frozen passes, or the shadow of crumbling towers. Wolves stalk the woods, swamps swallow the careless, and the mountains bite with frost and wind — yet if you endure these trials, you may earn their trust.
Shelter them. Feed them. And in return, they may take up hammer and hatchet by your side, helping to raise walls not just for survival, but for a new beginning.
In Medieval Frontiers, every great hall begins as a dream — but with hands, hearts, and hardship shared, it may yet rise from the ashes.
