Hello there,
In this post I'm going to briefly recap the Card Hog Early Access journey so far, tell you about things I plan to add this year and list the changes made in the last few silent updates. But before all that I would like to ask one question...
What would YOU like to see in Card Hog this year?
Anything goes! I really want to hear what are you looking forward to and what kind of crazy ideas you have. Who knows, maybe I'll implement a thing you suggested sooner or like a new idea enough to add it to the game ASAP!
Card Hog in 2020
Last year was pretty wild for all the world, but for Card Hog it was... okay-ish. Release in June went better than I expected, but things quickly calmed down and lately we're just slowly cruising towards the full release when Steam will hopefully increase game visibility in various lists and it starts getting more sales.
However, I'm quite optimistic about the future since the reception of this little card crawler has been mind-blowingly positive and I can't thank you enough for that. It keeps my motivation sky high!
- 28 weeks of early access
- 23 updates (almost weekly)
- 243 reviews (all positive!!!)
- 67 average daily users (last 7 days)
- 1h 10min median time played
- 376 remote play sessions (there's multiplayer!)
- ~800 free keys activated (I like giveaways)
- 0.8% players unlocked "Say Cheese!" achievement
Initially I was hoping that Early Access would take no more than 6 months, but we're past that deadline already (classic) and there's still so much I want to do, so... It will take a bit longer. Not sure how long, but I'll try to make sure that you wouldn't get bored... Talking about it..
Plans for 2021
My TODO list is an absolute mess and I occasionally like to chase "a crazy new idea", but here are a few things I'm either already working on or plan to work on during the next few months:
- Seeded challenges with leaderboards
- Translations
- Workshop for custom weapons and possibly enemies
- Better score and highscore system
- End game for zombie survival mode
- Better end game (and better name) for loops
- Final epic boss fight
- Secondary perks
- Multiple ways to use beans during the run
- New characters
- Character bios
- Trading Cards and other Steam goodies
- New cards and combos for existing cards (obviously)
- Release of Android (F2P) and iOS (premium) versions
But wait, there will be more!
I talked about adding story before, but I want to write a better quest system first and I'm using Zombie mode to test things out, so that will take much longer and might be something I want to do last or even after full release (not a DLC, just a big content update). However, more random NPCs with new types of quests will start appearing in endless game modes sooner.
What else... oh, yeah! Update!

Major Changes
- Booster cards (pick a card with 3 uses to kickstart your run)
- Holiday event (extended for one more week)
- Holiday enemy: Christmas Tree
- New weapon: Chainsaw (unfinished)
- Translation system (game is almost ready to be translated)
- Players will receive a bean after finishing tutorial for the first time
Other Changes
- Quest rewards can now have tiers
- More side quest variety
- New basic weapon: Leg (Zombie drop)
- Added drops to both mushrooms
- Added a sound after picking potion with full HP
- Fixed a bug where limited use cards were offered to upgrade
- Fixed editor preview not working
- Fixed character hand color in editor
- Fixed player health and damage overlapping upgrades menu
- Changed depth of menu borders to overlap other UI properly
- Various small UI alignments and changes
Oof... This took me quite a while! Time to go and fix a few bugs before going to bed.
Have a nice weekend!
Cheers!
