In this update we are ripping and tearing everything apart and trying out a brand new gameplay loop. We're really excited to hear what you think about it, so give these patch notes a quick read and get dodging!
Gameplay
- Scoring has been removed and replaced by a timer. The objective of the game is to survive for as long as possible.
- Death is inevitable. There is no hope.
- Towers and time bonuses have been removed, to make the game more survival-focused.
- When the player gets hit, the game is over.
- The player moves at a constant pace and cannot stop firing.
- Added a dash mechanic to give the player more tools to survive.
- New level system: Instead of the level and difficulty increasing along with the number of towers destroyed, the level increases every time the player detonates. However, we have also drastically increased the number of bullets needed to charge the detonator. Each time you detonate, your combo will carry over as charge for the next detonation. Meaning, if you score a massive combo on level 1, you could detonate immediately on level 2 and skip straight to level 3.
- Bullet patterns! We're really excited about this one and hope you are too. Every level has a new bullet pattern. Every time you loop through all the available patterns, the intensity increases, along with the amount of bullets needed to charge your detonation. Right now there are four, but we are going to increase this number as development moves forward.
Hopefully these changes will serve to focus the gameplay on what makes Terror Squid unique - namely making and dodging your own bullet hell. We also hope it will make it easier to gauge your own progress, since the scoring has been drastically simplified.
