Rogue State Revolution launches in a few day's time and we're aware that one of the more interesting and potentially puzzling elements is how the game can be classed as having roguelike elements.
If you go to Wikipedia the following is a description of roguelike:
Roguelike (or rogue-like) is a subgenre of role-playing video games characterized by a dungeon crawl through procedurally generated levels, turn-based gameplay, grid-based movement, and permanent death of the player character. Most roguelikes are based on a high fantasy narrative, reflecting their influence from tabletop role playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons.
Now RSR is not a Dungeons and Dragons game (we're sorry) but it is a lovingly crafted political strategy game that will hopefully invoke experiences you've had with fan fav strategy games of the past topped with the humour and crazy antics the game holds.
Roguelike games have been coming out more frequently and they would not be classed as D&D homages either. But they can still make use of the system and it can become an integral part of the entire feel of the game.
So lets look at where they pop up in Little Red Dog Games upcoming release.
🐐First up we have elements of procgen. The map of the great nation of Basenji is laid out differently with every run you play.
🐐Next is pretty straight forward and blunt, which is how we like our factoids to be. Permadeath exists in this game. You fail, you die, you restart! Good morning again Your Excellency.
🐐The option of unlocked ministers will differ with each playthrough. If you want to find out more about some of the Ministers check out past Steam posts.
🐐Your presidential office will have different decor and items. If you have a favourite pen, we can't guarantee it won't have gone walkabout by your next stab at being President. Oops we shouldn't have said stab, we've jinxed it now.
There's a lot to uncover in Rogue State Revolution and we don't want to spoil it all. Just remember that not all Presidents get things right the first time...or sometimes even the second. Maybe you'll be different.
