Last month, we offered some insights on Nyx and Sergei.
This month, what about an expedition to discover some biomes?
Buckle up as we travel to the first planet!
In Out There: Oceans of Time, you traverse the vastness of space and find multiple planets on your way. You can probe and drill on them to retrieve essential resources to continue your journey. However, on some of them, you have the opportunity to explore the surface in an expedition. It will allow you to find other kinds of resources, such as plants and minerals, and unlock new technologies.
Each expedition is generated like a maze.
Maps will possess 3 types of squares: impassable squares, obstacle squares and finally squares with special effects. The expedition’s objective is from a certain number of squares away from your landing square. Each movement from a square to another will cost you some action points. So, you need to find the most effective way to reach the objective square within the amount of action points you possess, otherwise, each step will cost you life points!

To better your immersion into this universe, planets possess different biomes. Each one has different specificities. Let’s discover them!
There are two main types of planets to discover: rocky planets and garden planets.
For the rocky planets, the difficulty was to make the environment soft and beautiful while maintaining this “rock” appearance and essence. For that, it was important to get away from the cliché shades of grey and dull like images of rocks.

In this first biome, we decided to go for a grey palette and use another form of rocks: clay. Landforms are like furnaces. Fumaroles and red cinders give colors and nuances to this cold landscape.

In this second rocky biome, we kept the brute aspect of rocks, shaped like spikes. Darker than the previous ones, this time white cinders create the needed contrast. Red grass gives the final touch to illuminate this dark biome.

In this last rocky biome, everything is different. In an ochre palette, this biome is luminous and warm. Colors such as brown and orange were used in this one. The landscape is flat and way less frightening even if there are some spikes here and there.
It is now time to look at the garden biomes!

No those aren’t pancakes filled with maple syrup sauce on top, those are mushrooms! In this biome, vegetation is imposing and luminous to contrast from the rocky biomes. The yellow and brown colors give a warm atmosphere completed by wheat fields.
This biome also possesses rocks but it isn’t the most present element and its very light color makes blends in the landscape.

For this last biome, let’s discover lush vegetation, an almost oppressing one. Made of gigantic bamboos and huge leafs, this biome is a jungle reminding us we are travellers on a different planet, so far away from our solar system.
The ground and rocks are covered with fresh green moss. Humidity is present with all the water sources dispatched in the middle of this jungle, making it look like a giant swamp. Warm colors were added through red flowers or yellow leafs to give an impression of infinity to this garden planet.
That’s where our journey ends.
We hope you enjoyed the view and feel ready for more explorations!
