Somewhere in Western Europe, 2081. The world has been taken over by an AI gone rogue. Once created to help mankind, machines are now roaming the empty streets in search for the remainders of their makers to destroy them.
Hunter has spent the past twenty years as a lone traveller wandering around and hunting down bots that came across his way. Silent and deadly, he slays his enemies with grace and efficiency, some might say he is effortlessly cool. His friendly demeanour hides a sad past though, he has lost his girlfriend and new-born child to the machines when the onslaught started.
One day, he finds himself at the entrance of an odd, long abandoned theme park, hearing a mysterious signal coming from a radio. Curious to find out where it’s coming from, he decides to fight his way through the Crushers and ends up in a Hideout, meeting a strange old lady there.
She turns out to be a badass inventor who knows how to use bots and turn them against the enemy. Her name is Su and she uses her own walkbot, Walker, when fighting, which makes her a match for the deadly machines. Later in battle you will also find out that she can deploy time bombs, turrets, and mobile mines to attack the enemies with.
While talking to Su you find out that she is worried about her daughter, Memory, who has been gone on a mission for a long time. The helpful Hunter volunteers to go and bring her the tools that she might need. He finds her in a seemingly peaceful Lumber Mill, near a dangerous robot puppy.
Though Memory seems to be doubtful and quite sassy at first (she is a teenager after all, going through some difficult times like an apocalypse), they turn out to be a great team when facing the malicious robots: Hunter is very skilled at melee attack, shooting guns or using explosives, while Memory can hack and control robots, immobilizing, disabling or attacking them from afar.
They have to get through the Lumber Mill and find a data cable, something that Memory wants to use to learn more about the powerful AI that has been ruling the world. She and Su are convinced that there is still a chance to reset the AI and it isn’t necessary to destroy it, but as you will see, not everyone agrees with them. You will meet heroes that have suffered so much that they are unable to forgive and forget, and have sworn to take out all the machines…
