I'm hyped, and I hope you are too!
But before you go ahead and start Ikarus I'd like to point out a few things:
Ikarus takes a bit to get used to, I'd estimate it around 15-20 minutes for most people. However we've gone out of our way to hire a professional voice actor and movie team to produce a high-quality bleeding-edge tutorial video for you - cough.
Ikarus can be found in your library under "Software" not "Games", in case that confuses some of you.
Please bear in mind that this is the first beta release, it's by no means final, by no means bug-free. This is only the start, and hopefully a glorious one.
What you'll need: Steam, and about 20-50MB of hard drive space. A mouse and keyboard are also helpful.
Some information:
The first start seems to run a bit slow, however it was gone after restarting, this will be investigated ASAP.
We've had some major GUI changes in ikarus, which will mean the screenshots won't resemble the actual program at all anymore. However almost all features from the old layout have been ported. Missing are the calendar features and the ability to create multiple projects. Both of which will be patched in within the next week or so - the projects-thing taking precedence.
Despite our best efforts, Ikarus might still have project-breaking bugs, in those cases however we've made sure that your data is fine. Meaning that you should be able to recover them once we patch the bugs out. In order to continue using ikarus after a failure, you need to go into the steam folder,
steam->steamapps->common->Ikarus
rename the "test.db" file to something else (as a backup) and restart Ikarus, which will create a new file for you.
The new layout provides you with docking mechanisms, meaning you can move windows around freely and put them where-ever you want. However it also doesn't look as you might be useful from other applications. I'm a programmer, not a designer, however providing a better look is a priority of ours as well - once the main features are in place.
For any questions feel free to join our Discord. This includes bug-reports, feedback (both negative and positive), as well as if you want to just chat with us for a bit, however we'll be mostly away for today to celebrate the release with friends and family.
Signed with excitement,
Folling - Dev and Community Manager
