Hey everyone!
The world of Fried Chicken is full of wacky characters, but they all need a place to live and work! Our artist Filip is on the job, crafting only the most suspicious of shop fronts, and stunning beach front flats around the city.
The first step for creating any asset is figuring out the dimensions and unit sizes with both help to inform appropriate references. Since the game is based on Miami a lot of references came from the city itself; it’s full of colour and we wanted to get the across the vibrancy. After getting an idea of the asset direction each building can be broken down into modular pieces and assembled in MagicaVoxel.

Examples of the kind of references gathered.

All buildings are built with a modular approach, such that many separate 3D pieces that can be easily put together in multiple ways to create an assortment of complete buildings. This was the best approach in order to get lots of variation and make production efficient.

Asset packs are made up of walls, doors and rooftops along with other special assets like ladders, ventilation, electrical utilities etc. which help really bring the buildings to life and set them in the world.

Each building falls into a different category, these being residential, commercial or industrial. These each have slightly different visual rules in order to make sure they can be easily identified by the player.
