Hey Chicken Champions! It's time for another dev diary :-)
Last time we learned about balancing the needs of our staff, this week we're going to look a little deeper in who our staff are.

The game has four distinct employee types; Worker, Engineer, Cleaner and Guard. Workers craft products and serve customers, Engineers maintain appliances, reset traps and put out fires, Cleaners keep floors clean reducing contamination, and Guards protect facilities from attackers.

Early on in the design process we considered having just a single hirable employee type, who could be assigned any number of roles such as fixing equipment or protecting the facility. It was decided however that splitting the employees into distinct roles more clearly highlighted the four different gameplay aspects within facility design and operation.

Additionally, this opened up opportunities to include commands specific to an employee type, such as assigning individual product lines for Workers, and patrol routes for Guards. Having this clear distinction also improved the game’s UI, with each employee types’ actions being appropriately represented in the side panel.
