Hello soldiers,
With the new real time pvp almost ready to be launched, we’re looking forward to more pvp changes, specifically the matchmaking and leagues.
The current issues that we have are:
- Not finding an opponent due to the amount of concurrent players.
- Difference on deck values/power between new and veteran players.
- Players gaining too much rating too quickly.
All the three issues are linked together and while with an infinite amount of players all problems would be resolved, that’s impossible. Of course increasing the player base of the game would help a lot, but we need to find other solutions to reach at least a satisfactory experience on pvp for all players.
Below you will find the changes that we intend to make and we’ll shortly explain the reason behind each change.
Starting Matches
Currently, players gain/lose twice the amount of points during their first 30 matches. The reason behind this feature is that after a league reset players should quickly reach the position that they should be (according to the ELO matchmaking algorithm). After carefully reviewing the previous starting seasons, we’re going to do the following changes:
- Reduce to 15 the amount of starting matches.
- Reduce in half the amount of points given by offline players.
Rating Points Gained
The amount of points gained/lost during a match depends on the player's current rating and if the opponent is online or not.
If a player reaches 2400 points, the amount of points is reduced by 25%.
If the opponent is offline regardless of the player’s rating the amount of points is reduced 50%.
We’re now adjusting the values to match the leagues.
- If a player reaches 1750 rating, the amount of points is reduced by 25% (50% against offline players).
- If a player reaches 2500 rating, the amount of points is reduced by 50% (75% against offline players).
- Against an offline opponent the amount of points is reduced by 50%. (Players with 1749 or less rating)
The decision behind these changes are:
- Increase the amount of matches to reach higher ratings.
- Increase the amount of online matches to reach higher ratings.
- Reduce the rating gap between players in the Diamond League.
Currently new users who spend a lot of time playing pvp matches can reach a really high level during their first month, artificially increasing their rating by playing against Offline Players. While Offline players are currently necessary we need to compensate for the amount of points given to avoid players to quickly increase their rating and therefore find opponents out of their real rating.
