As we have promised end of 2025, we are releasing a small update for Monster Sanctuary on Steam today to fix bugs that have been reported over the last years as well as some minor improvements - Update 2.2 is live now!
General Changes
Controller Recognition: We updated the input framework we used to the newest version - this means the game will properly recognize PS5 controllers now, as well as some other controllers that were released recently
Saved Monster Teams: The Monster Teams you have saved can now be renamed and their positions can be reorganized
Savegame Backup Stability: Made the Savegame backup system more robust
Link to moi rai games' community places: The Main Menu now features small buttons that will link to our Discord/Reddit/X/TikTok/Steam community
VSync Option: We added an option to disable VSync in the Video settings
PvP Relic Disabling: ‘Allow Relics’ is now off by default in the PvP host screen
Controller Icons: For displayed controller icons, ‘Switch’ is now available in addition to XBox, PlayStation and pro controller, being recognized accordingly when set to ‘Auto’
Skill Adjustments & Bugfixes
As written above, we are releasing this update to fix as many frequently reported bugs as possible to give back to everyone of you who still enjoys playing Monster Sanctuary. We have fixed A LOT of annoying little bugs related to skills and made adjustments to some, so that the skills work as you would expect it in combat. This hopefully results in a smooth experience for you.
Here we also want to thank our community member Neotini, who provided the base for many of those fixes.
Here is the changelist:
Buffs from Martial Prowess are now applied by the Monster that possesses the Aura
Critical Consistency now applies an action's bonus Critical Damage (such as Claws) on non-Critical Hits
Critical Apex now also applies to Critical Consistency on non-Critical hits
Counter Attack and Riposte are now affected by Shatter and Stuck Tight, but can also trigger an enemy's Mana Generator, Reflect, Revenge, Thorns, and Fish Scales
Disease Control, Sheltered, Thick Skin, Occult Control, and Debuff Variety now reduce Counter Attack and Riposte damage
Shielding from Trickster Spirit is now applied by the Monster that possesses the Aura
Healing and shielding from Sidekick Support are now also affected by Buff multipliers such as Buff Catalyst
Additional Shock trigger (beyond the first) no longer half the chances to trigger additional things like blinding sparks
Broken Immunity now affects Hex, Primal Hex, True Darkness, Infernal Roar, Icy Fists, Venomous Fangs, Curse Chain, Spark, Slime Skin, and lower levels of Abyssal Sword and Sharp Fin
Critical Damage from Heavy Hitter now properly affects Critical Defense
Damage increased by Taunt properly only applies to PvP battles
Double Strike can now trigger from Critical Hybridization and Proliferate
Reflect, Thorns, and Fish Scales now always trigger after incoming damage is calculated from Anti Cascade, Disease Control, Sheltered, Taunt (PvP only), Thick Skin, Occult Control, and Debuff Variety
Backstab Critical Chance bonus properly applies on hits to target enemies that are above 70% Health rather than only at full Health
Renewal, Energy Conversion, Feast, Healing Link, Hibernate, Necromancy, and Reborn from Ashes are now affected by heal multipliers
Fixed Prehistoric Screech to properly take monster types into account and also apply the shield damage bonus to allies
Ancient Nectar properly heals based on each Monster's Max Health rather than the Monster with the passive
Mana Donor can no longer "miss" when another allied Monster uses an action that does not cost Mana
Overheal no longer shows shield preview when using Potions
Fixed Pirate Hook description to say "ability" instead of "attack"
Fishing Rod, Fishing Pole, and Grey Stone now also trigger for Antidote and Power Focus
Lucky Clover is now affected by Riposte On-hit chance multiplier
Forceful Might and Forceful Sorcery now affect Anti Cascade and Mass Protector
Fixed Glorious Spark to properly scale with the glory stacks
Jolly Spirit no longer triggers for Potions
Fixed Jolly Spirit, Fishing Rod, Fishing Pole, and Grey Stone not applying a Buff when using Power Focus
Combo Buffing and Holy Presence now add to combo counter even when your monster are capped out on buffs (like buff actions do)
Additional Regeneration triggers on Champion Monsters are now half as effective
Path to Ascension/Knowledge/Valhalla now randomly chooses the applied Buffs - The Buff-stacking ability of the skills now also work as Unique Auras
Incinerate, Igniting Gas, and Plague no longer have double the chance to trigger on additional Burn and Poison damage procs
Magnetize properly redirects attacks that target the Monster with the passive - It is also no longer labeled as "Unique" as it was actually stacking if you had multiple
Curse of Weakness now applies the Debuff to the Monster that received the Weakness and can now also trigger itself if the random Debuff is another Weakness
Disoriented properly causes attacks to miss instead of getting dodged
Infernal Roar can now trigger from Counter Attack and Riposte Critical Hits
Impactful Shock base damage increase now affects Shock on enemies instead of allies
Elemental Break now affects Monsters with Elemental Shift
Fixed Dragon Mastery description to say "Water" instead of "Ice"
Abyssal Sword and Gold Feather no longer try to apply Debuffs when the target is already at capped stacks
Shock now deals 50% (instead of 40%) damage, as mentioned in the description
Armor Break properly reduces the damage reduction of Anti Cascade, Disease Control, Mass Protector, Sheltered, Thick Skin, Occult Control, and Debuff Variety
Skirmish now properly applies bleed equal to 5% current health (not max health)
Attacking a Monster with Sticky Trap no longer prevents existing Tether stacks from decreasing after the attack
Improved Attack uses the correct icon in-battle
Other Bug Fixes
Fixed some seeds not generating a new game when 'Bravery' and 'Randomizer' were both activated
Adjusted description of Champion Buff to “Increased Damage” instead of “increased Attack”
Fixed the game not correctly choosing Japanese as default language setting on Japanese systems
Some additional achievement fulfil conditions are checked when loading a savegame
In Randomizer New Game +, if you are given a Dracomer or Krakaturtle Egg from beating Zosimos, its explore ability is automatically unlocked
In Randomizer New Game+, Shockhopper's Randomizer replacement Explore Ability becomes available once the Cryomancer quest is initiated
In Randomizer New Game+, Ninki and Sizzle Knight's Randomizer replacement Explore Ability becomes available once Sun Palace is completed
Fixed some skill icon visuals
Fixed Catzerker’s Monster Journal Sprite having some empty pixels
Added missing tooltips to many skills that apply buffs/debuffs/stacks
Additional Bug Fixes in 2.2.1.0
22.07.2026: We released a small hotfix for the update, fixing some additional bugs:
Fixed Disoriented giving twice the chance for enemy’s to miss their hits
Fixed Igniting Gas now probably only having half the chance to trigger on additional poison trigger
Fixed Broken Immunity now properly affects Primal Hex
Fixed True Darkness not triggering multiple times when multiple stacks of Blind are applied at once
Fixed damage preview for Static Strike and One Punch Fist
Fixed Cryomancer in Bravery mode to not require you to donate your improved flying monster (rare occurrence)
Fixed magnetize to properly redirect attacks that target the Monster with the passive
Fixed a visually missing tile in Blue Caves at the teleport crystal
Additional Bug Fixes in 2.2.2.1
25.07.2026: We released one more hotfix to fix some more remainig bugs!
Thorns and fish scales no longer reflect missed/dodged hits as 0 damage bleed
Disoriented properly works as Unique aura now (not stackable) and has no effect if the ally is dead
Preview Dodge/Miss chance for Disoriented is properly displayed now (if option to display Dodge/Miss chances is enabled)
Steam only update
This small update is Steam only. The console ports were originally not made by ourselves and we sadly don't have the possibilities to easily release this update on the consoles anymore.
