Q. Could the game eventually expand beyond Seoul?
(Once players reach a certain level and progress far enough through the main story, it would be great if they could continue their journey by traveling to other regions such as Busan or Jeju Island through airports or train stations)

A. We'd love to expand the game in that direction as well. However, there is still a lot of content we haven't yet been able to create even within Seoul, so it will take some more time before we can seriously consider that. If the game is able to maintain a stable service after launch, we would like to explore expanding to other regions through major content updates in the future.

Q. Are there any plans to introduce a player trading system?
(I understand and agree with the reasoning behind postponing the marketplace in NAKWON. However, one of the key appeals of the extraction genre is having items obtained through looting recognized as valuable assets or currencies within the game, which can serve as both a source of enjoyment and motivation.
With that in mind, I think it could be beneficial to consider a limited trading system that allows legitimate players to make use of the value of the items they acquire while minimizing side effects such as cheating and real-money trading. For example: Restricted Tradeable Items, Stricter Marketplace Requirements, Transaction Limits and Fees, No Direct Player-to-Player Trading)

A. We fully recognize the advantages that a player marketplace can provide, and we've explored various approaches, including item binding and trade restrictions. That said, there are still several areas that feel unclear or premature for implementation at this stage, so the feature remains on hold for now. From a long-term perspective after launch, I do think there is room to revisit the idea, particularly in the form of a restricted marketplace with carefully selected tradeable item categories. As you suggested, multiple safeguards would need to be implemented alongside such a system, and we'll continue evaluating the idea at the appropriate time after launch.

Q. Could a Hardcore Mode be added as endgame content?
(I'd love to see a Hardcore Mode as endgame content for players who have reached Citizen Rank 1, account level cap, completed the main story and side quests, and fully developed their shelter)

A. Endgame content is one of the areas we're thinking about most carefully. We want NAKWON to remain enjoyable for a long time, and we're actively exploring what kinds of goals, challenges, and motivations will keep players engaged even after they've experienced all of the game's content. While it's still too early to share specific details, please know that we're evaluating and preparing a variety of different directions for the game's long-term progression and endgame experience.

Q. How will player alignments be identified and distinguished?
(After reading the Dev Note, I became curious about how the alignment system will work, specifically the distinctions between Good and Evil, as well as Lawful and Chaotic alignments. If alignments are indicated through visible markers, there could be situations where players have difficulty identifying them due to viewing angles, clothing coverage, or character positioning. I'm also curious about how alignment-related quests would work. For example, if a Good-aligned player receives a quest to hunt Evil-aligned players, but repeatedly ends up killing other Good-aligned players by mistake, how would the system evaluate that player's alignment?)

A. Our current plan is that players will not be able to directly see another player's alignment. That said, there may be situations where a player's alignment can be inferred through their actions. For example, certain quests may require you to deal damage to players of a specific alignment, allowing you to identify them through direct interaction rather than through a visible indicator. In cases where Good-aligned players are tasked with hunting Evil-aligned players, the intent is that players must carefully assess the situation and only attack when they have a strong reason to believe the target is truly hostile. As a result, maintaining a Good alignment is designed to be challenging, while maintaining an Evil alignment is intended to be comparatively easier. One possibility currently being discussed involves the Sonar Sense skill. If players invest deeply enough into that specialization tree, it may become possible to identify the alignments of nearby players. No other concrete methods for revealing alignment information have been firmly decided yet. Please keep in mind that all of these details are still under development and may change as the design evolves.

Q. Will there be dynamic weather changes during expeditions?
(Will there be features that change the weather during an expedition, such as rain, fog, or other environmental conditions?)

A. Weather conditions are randomized for each expedition. Different types of weather, including rain and fog, can occur during your runs.

Q. Could conditional extraction points be added?
(Would it be possible to add extraction points that only become available after players meet certain conditions?)

A. Yes, there are extraction points with special mechanics. For example, in the Jongno North map from the Closed Alpha Test, players could obtain a specific keycard and use it to escape through a shared extraction point. Similar to this, each map may include extraction points that require unique conditions to be met before they can be used.

Q. Could maps feature different events or variations?
(In some games, maps are modified through special events, such as stronger enemies, different objectives, or increased loot quality)

A. We do not currently plan to have map variations within a single expedition mode. Instead, each expedition mode will feature its own distinct map setup. For example, PvPvE and PvE Expeditions are designed with different objectives in mind, which is reflected in how their maps are configured. PvPvE Expeditions focus primarily on exploration and scavenging, so zombie kills provide relatively limited rewards. PvE Expeditions, on the other hand, are centered around zombie hunting, with fewer loot opportunities but greater zombie density and increased rewards for taking them down.

Q. Could parts of the map change between expeditions?
(Could certain areas of the map change from one expedition to another, with some routes opening or closing each time? For example, there could be rare zones that only become accessible occasionally, or high-value loot areas whose locations change between expeditions)

A. This is something we could consider implementing through special map-specific mechanics. At the moment we introduced a degree of unpredictability by having the locations of high-tier loot change from expedition to expedition based on key scavenging information. That said, the most valuable areas of the map will inevitably remain somewhat consistent. We want the decision of whether to contest those locations or move elsewhere to remain in the hands of the players. We believe NAKWON creates its most engaging moments through competition over limited resources, with player interactions naturally generating a wide range of dynamic situations. We also want to preserve the sense of progression that comes from becoming more familiar with a map. As players learn the environment and improve their route planning, their scavenging efficiency increases, and we see that as an important part of the player's growth and mastery of the game.

Q. What direction are you planning to take with the looting system?
(I'm curious about the overall direction of the looting system. I understand that many changes have been made since the CAT, and I'm particularly interested in whether there are plans to introduce special loot items that players will actively seek out from an endgame perspective)

A. These are the reasons why players may choose to continue looting and exploring.

1. Loots for Survival Conditions (e.g. consumables)
Food and other consumables will remain as important resources. Players will need to regularly gather these items to stay prepared for future expeditions.
2. Progression (e.g. citizen status, shelters)
Progression is another major factor. Advancing the citizen status or upgrading the shelter may require specific materials, encouraging players to seek out particular resources and locations throughout the world.
3. Optimizing Equipments
Gear can roll with random modifiers, and both the type of the modifier and its value are randomized. Players who want to optimize a specific build or playstyle will likely continue crafting and farming in search of ideal equipment.

Beyond these gameplay systems, there will also be content-driven reasons such as quests, and more personal goals like decorating and customizing the shelter. We want players to have a variety of motivations for returning to expeditions, rather than farming for a single purpose alone.

Welcome to our August Dev Talk.

We've spent a lot of time discussing what we should reveal this month. The more we share, the more we risk taking away the sense of discovery that awaits players after launch.

That said, the previous Dev Talk only covered a few smaller improvements, so this time we'd like to go a bit further and talk about some of the larger changes currently in development.

Today's update can be divided into two categories:

Features from the Closed Alpha Test (CAT) that are being reworked
New features that are being added after CAT

Features Being Reworked

There are far too many changes to cover in a single post, but I'd like to highlight a few examples that have either been frequently discussed by players or that I personally consider particularly important.

Please note that these are only a small portion of the improvements we've been working on since the CAT.

1. Balancing Box Disguise

The Box Disguise skill in the CAT did not perform as we originally intended.

Players could often move around almost freely without being detected, even when infected were standing right next to them. That was never our intention.

By the time we identified the problem during the CAT, we felt it would be better to avoid lengthy server maintenance during such a short test period.

As a result, the skill remained unchanged throughout the test.

Going forward, Box Disguise will require considerably more player skill during its usage.

We want to preserve its scavenging potential while introducing meaningful risk and execution requirements. The goal is to create a noticeable difference between players who master the skill and those who rely on it carelessly.

A simple comparison would be the "Red Light, Green Light" game. If you move carefully when infected aren't watching, you'll still be able to execute stealthy scavenging strategies. If you move recklessly, however, you'll be much easier to detect. We've also increased the risk by adding stamina consumption while moving and slightly reducing movement speed, making mindlessly walking around inside a box far less effective.

At the same time, we're expanding the skill's possibilities through new traits. Some examples include being able to use items while disguised as a box or even checking your tablet without removing the disguise.

2. Balancing Other Skills

Skills such as Rope Dart and Sonar Sense are also going through extensive balancing.

There are generally two approaches to balance adjustments. One is to constantly nerf anything that becomes too powerful. The other is to improve weaker options so that more choices become viable. Personally, I prefer the latter.

I believe games become more enjoyable when players feel excited about choosing between multiple strong options instead of feeling forced into a single correct answer.

Our goal is for every skill to have a unique strength that makes players think: "Maybe I should try that skill next time."

3. Introducing a Character Stat System

NAKWON's character attributes are highly detailed.

Even something as simple as running is currently divided into numerous individual attributes:

Run Speed
Run Acceleration
Crouch Run Speed
Crouch Run Acceleration
Backward Run Speed
Backward Run Acceleration
Run Noise
Crouch Run Noise

This level of detail was originally intended to create a wide variety of possibilities when designing Gear, equipment options, and character progression.

However, it also created some drawbacks. Because everything was so granular, Gear descriptions often became unnecessarily long and difficult to understand.

In another RPG, an item might simply say: Agility +4. But In NAKWON, achieving a similar effect could require listing multiple individual attributes separately.

To improve readability and accessibility, we've decided to add a traditional RPG-style stat system.

Characters will now have six primary stats:

Strength
Constitution
Agility
Dexterity
Stealth
Endurance

Increasing these stats will automatically improve the related underlying attributes.

At the same time, we're maintaining the flexibility of our existing system. Detailed attributes can still be granted individually through Gear options when necessary, allowing us to create a hybrid system that combines simplicity with depth.

The result is much cleaner item descriptions and significantly improved readability while retaining the customization possibilities we originally envisioned.

There are many more improvements beyond these examples, and we're continuing to refine every aspect of the game.

New Features Added After Closed Alpha Test

Following the CAT, one major question stayed with me: "How can we keep the game enjoyable for a much longer period of time?"

Every game eventually faces the same challenge. If players repeat the same activities long enough, they naturally begin to lose interest.

During the CAT, we saw a remarkably high number of players logging in and playing every day. Part of that was certainly because people enjoyed the game. However, I also believe the short four-to-five-day test period played a significant role.

If the exact same version of the game had remained available for one or two weeks after launch, would we have seen the same level of enthusiasm?

Honestly, I don't think so.

That's why it was necessary to add more depth to the game. And I didn't believe that simply adding more content, whether through additional quests, Citizen Status progression, or other systems, would be enough to solve the problem.

One thing I've learned from my years of experience directing MMORPGs is that players will always outperform a developer's expectations. No matter how much content we create, players inevitably consume it faster than we can make it. Because of that, I believe there are clear limits to relying solely on the constant production of new content.

In reality, the CAT build was designed with a relatively limited amount of playable content. Yet many players continued to log in and play for days beyond what that volume of content alone would normally support.

Why was that?

I believe the biggest reason is that NAKWON is a PvPvE game. Every encounter with another player had the potential to create unexpected situations, and those interactions generated experiences that could never be entirely designed or scripted by the developers.

Even so, the CAT version still had its limits. Given enough time, players would eventually begin to encounter the same types of situations repeatedly. I felt that, after about a week, many interactions would start to feel familiar and predictable.

That led me to a simple conclusion: if we could create a world where players approach each encounter with different motivations and circumstances, then every interaction could unfold in a unique way. And if every encounter feels different, the lifespan of that excitement can be extended far beyond what content alone could achieve.

With that goal in mind, we've been developing several new systems since the CAT. I'd like to introduce a few of them today.

1. More Conflict, More Cooperation: Alignment System

During the CAT, players primarily managed two things:

Fullness
Morale

Together, I refer to these as your Survival Condition. Your need to maintain this Survival Condition gives you a clear reason to scavenge, grow stronger, and continue progressing. But eventually, players adapt, and managing Survival Condition becomes routine.

At that point, motivation begins to fade. In real life, once people solve their basic needs, they start searching for purpose and self-fulfillment. I believe NAKWON needs a similar layer.

That is where the new Alignment system comes in. Alignment represents the answer to a simple question: "How do you choose to live?"

I refer to this as your Social Condition, because it reflects both who you are as a person and how you interact with others.

The Alignment system is built around two opposing axes:

Lawful ↔ Chaotic
Good ↔ Evil

Every choice you make in the game influences these values. Whether you kill or save others, complete certain quests, and the daily event you partake. All these actions over time, will shape your Alignment.

This creates four major archetypes:

Lawful Good
Lawful Evil
Chaotic Good
Chaotic Evil

And these alignments are not permanent. In fact, they continuously change based on how you play.

We plan to provide personalized content based on each player's Alignment.

The city contains Faction NPCs that represent each of these four alignments. As your Alignment develops, the corresponding faction will become available and offer advanced quests that reflect your character's values and behavior.

For example, players who lean toward Evil may receive quests such as:

Eliminate X players
Eliminate X players who use Box Disguise
Carry a player's Corpse for over 100 meters

The interesting part is that these quests don't simply create individual objectives. They can also function as a form of faction conflict.

Players may receive quests that encourage cooperation or opposition between different alignments:

(Good Quest) Eliminate X Evil-aligned players
(Evil Quest) Eliminate X Good-aligned players
(Lawful Good Quest) Rescue or revive X players regardless of Alignment
(Chaotic Evil Quest) Attack X players regardless of Alignment (Deal 10,000 cumulative damage)

Players won't automatically know another player's Alignment. Instead, they'll need to judge others based on their behavior, conversations, and actions, or discover it through direct interaction and quest progression.

Our hope is that this system will allow each player's identity and playstyle to become more clearly defined while creating richer social dynamics and more varied player interactions.

2. Different Stakes for Different People: Conditional Quest System

During the CAT, most players entered expeditions under fairly similar circumstances. Everyone was working toward similar objectives and carrying roughly the same sense of urgency. As a result, interactions between players tended to occur under similar conditions.

With the new Conditional Quest System, that's no longer the case. Advanced quests can now include various requirements and restrictions that dramatically change the importance of an expedition for different players.

Examples include:

Time-Limited Objectives

Successfully extract from at least three of your next five Expeditions.
Eliminate at least 2 Evil-aligned players within your next 2 Expeditions.

Wager-Based Objectives

Risk your current Gear and eliminate at least X players during your next Expedition to receive additional Gear of the same tier.
Put up 50% of your assets as collateral. Earn 5,000,000 Credits through scavenging within the next three Expeditions to receive double your collateral as a reward.

Failure and Abandonment Conditions

Eliminate at least one player and successfully extract during your next Expedition. Failure results in a 1,000,000 Credits penalty.
Earn at least 5,000,000 Credits in a single Expedition. Abandoning the quest after accepting it results in a 500,000 Credit penalty.

These conditions create very different levels of pressure between players. While two players may enter the same Expedition together, one might simply be gathering supplies while another could be risking half of their accumulated wealth.

Combined with the Alignment system, these varying motivations can lead to a much wider range of player-driven stories and conflicts.

Closing Thoughts

We've covered quite a lot today, but what you've seen today is only part of what we're working on.

We're also developing a PvE mode, a Battle Pass system, entirely new Aberrant Infected, and even a fourth map that hasn't been revealed yet. There are also several major systems that we're not ready to talk about publicly.

From my experience as an MMORPG director, I know just how difficult it is to create a game that remains exciting for players over a long period of time. That's why my goal is to make sure that even the most dedicated hardcore players can enjoy the game for at least one month after launch.

And that doesn't mean we'll stop after the first month. When that month is over, we'll continue introducing new systems, new content, and new experiences to keep the game fresh.

The development team is working hard toward that goal every day.

We can't reveal everything ahead of time. Doing so would take away much of the fun of discovering NAKWON for yourself. The features we've discussed today will have a major impact on the future of the game's design, but they are far from the whole picture.

We understand that long periods of waiting naturally lead to concerns and uncertainty.

This Dev Talk is our way of showing that we're listening, that development is progressing, and that we're doing our best to reward your patience.

Beyond the walls of NAKWON, the thing you should fear most isn't the infected. It's other people.

The person standing beside you, helping clear out a horde of infected, may become your greatest threat the moment the looting is done.

In this edition of NAKWON Note, we'd like to introduce the people who call this world home—the vendors of NAKWON you'll meet every day when you return from an expedition alive.

The Vendors of NAKWON Are Not Friendly Guides

They are survivors who endured the collapse of the world in their own ways.

The woman at the hardware store tells you only the price.

"30K. …Take it or leave it. Your call."

The repair shop owner examines your gear and gives a short answer.

"Can do." "Can't do."

The pharmacist always seems irritated, yet when one of his regular customers arrives late, he asks:

"What took you so long?."

Of course, not everyone keeps people at arm's length.
The armor vendor greets returning survivors with a warm smile and says:

"You're back. Glad to see you made it."

They, too, are survivors of NAKWON.

For many players, shops are familiar places.
They're where you buy supplies, repair gears, and prepare for the next expedition.
But the people standing behind those counters are survivors of NAKWON just like everyone else.

And behind every face lies a story that has yet to be told.

Ji-won Jeong, the owner of the Yeouido Hardware, carries a key left behind by her father.
Even she doesn't know what it unlocks.
Rumor has it that the pharmacist, Jung-hwan Shin, owns a gun.
The Committee thoroughly searched his shop, but found nothing.
Min-seok Han, who runs the Daeheung Hardware Store, bears a scar across his face.
Whenever a newcomer arrives in NAKWON, he quietly goes to see them for himself.
Yang-ho Gye from the repair shop could easily qualify for a higher citizen rank.
Yet he never does, and never explains why.

Many Shops, One NAKWON

Each vendor watches over their own shop and lives their own life.
Yet their stories continue beyond those walls, often in ways they themselves do not realize.
Two people who once attended the same school may pass each other every day without ever recognizing one another.

And over those unseen connections looms the shadow of the NAKWON Management Committee—heavier over some shops than others.
The Committee stands on top of all hierarchy in NAKWON, and people find their own ways to survive within that system.

And somewhere in NAKWON, there are still faces you have yet to meet.

Our Approach and Intentions

At the heart of NAKWON lies a constant sense of tension.
In the expedition area, you must remain wary not only of the infected, but of other survivors as well.

That's why we wanted the vendors waiting in the safe zone to feel familiar. They're among the first people you see before heading out, and the first faces that greet you when you make it back.

More than anything, we wanted them to feel like people.
Not just NPCs who provide services, but fellow residents of NAKWON, each with their own place in the community, and their own story to tell.

Q. It would be great if more detailed firearm animations were added.

We appreciate this suggestion and agree that details like these can greatly enhance immersion.

While we have many areas to continue improving, we will look for opportunities to further refine firearm mechanics and animations.

Q. It might be helpful to add an in-universe explanation that the siren uses a frequency zombies cannot detect, or to introduce a rule that causes smoke grenades to dissipate at extraction points.

With regard to the siren, the concept of zombies being unable to perceive a specific frequency was, in fact, an approach we explored during earlier Alpha testing.

However, we ultimately concluded that the concept lacked intuitive clarity, as it was difficult for players to immediately understand why zombies would not react to certain sounds. As a result, the explanation did not provide the level of credibility and intuitiveness we were aiming for.

Rather than relying on a more elaborate lore-based justification, we are currently pursuing a design direction focused on intuitive understanding. Under this approach, sirens will either not sound in certain situations or, when they do sound, zombies will react to them. Our objective is to ensure that in-game behavior remains clear, predictable, and easy for players to understand.

Regarding smoke grenades, having smoke automatically dissipate at extraction points would certainly be an elegant solution for preventing low-risk extraction attempts. However, we believe such an approach would unnecessarily remove a strategic option from players and therefore does not align with our design philosophy.

Instead, our current design allows zombies to continue interacting with and attacking players upon physical contact, even when visibility is obscured by the smoke. This approach preserves the tactical value of smoke grenades while ensuring that they do not entirely eliminate the risks associated with extraction.

Q. Are there plans to add maps set in regions outside of Seoul?

Our focus will remain on Seoul for the time being,

There are still many locations within Seoul that we believe have strong potential as future maps, and expanding to other regions would require significant changes to the game's worldbuilding and narrative framework.

Regional expansion is something we can imagine after launch through major updates that broaden the game's core systems and overall scope. For now, however, our development will remain focused on fully realizing Seoul as the setting of NAKWON.

Q. It would be great to have a unified storage system and loadout presets.

At the moment, we are somewhat hesitant about introducing a unified storage system.
One of NAKWON’s core goals is to give players a sense of motivation to pursue a better life and satisfaction from the progress they achieve over time.

Because that motivation begins with scarcity, our inventory progression is designed not around simply increasing storage slots, but around physically placing storage furniture within your living space to expand your capacity. We want players to feel the limitations of a small home and then experience a tangible sense of improvement as their home grows and evolves.

A fully unified storage system could fundamentally undermine that progression and sense of accomplishment. For that reason, we currently plan to maintain our physical-space-based storage design.

That said, we will continue improving usability so that players can access and manage their storage more easily.

As for loadout presets through special furniture such as mannequins, this is a feature we have discussed internally. While it is not feasible in the near term due to scheduling priorities, it remains on our roadmap for future consideration.

Beyond intentional limitations that support gameplay progression, we will continue refining the experience to ensure players are not inconvenienced by things that simply should work better.

Q. It would be great if players could invite friends to their shelter and interact with placed furniture through dedicated animations.

The ability to invite friends to your shelter is a feature that has been mentioned within the dev team as well.
Recent technical reviews have shown that it may be feasible, and we are currently testing the idea.

If the implementation goes well, our first goal is to allow players to invite friends into their shelters and explore it together. We want players to be able to showcase the spaces they have built and personalized to other survivors.

Interactions with furniture, however, are not currently on top of our list, and are likely to be reconsidered after launch.

For now, our focus is enabling shelter visits and allowing more immersive interaction features potentially following in future updates.

Q. I worry that the newly revealed weapons may detract from NAKWON’s unique identity. Is there any plan to reevaluate their designs?

These weapons were revealed as part of our efforts to explore a variety of equipment modification, and we fully understand the concerns being raised.

While exploring a variety of visual directions for modified versions of existing equipment beyond their gameplay performance, we will be careful to avoid designs that undermine the sense of realism and practicality in how the equipment would actually be used.

We understand that modified equipments should feel like something survivors in NAKWON’s world could realistically create and use. We will continue refining these concepts while carefully considering the wide range of feedback we receive from players.

Q. Could the Box Disguise and Rope Dart skills be adjusted to encourage diverse playstyles?

The Box Disguise skill has gone through several rounds of adjustments since the CAT, with the goal of preserving its potential while increasing the risks involved.
As a result, player proficiency should now make a much greater difference in performance.

We are also adjusting the Rope Dart to ensure that its effects cannot be triggered too easily.

Whenever possible, we prefer to improve underused skills rather than simply nerfing stronger ones. We believe that raising the overall power and appeal of active skills leads to a more enjoyable experience.

While both the Box and Rope Dart skills will receive some adjustments, our main focus is on making other active skills more compelling, so that players have meaningful choices when deciding which skills to bring.

At the same time, we are actively working on new skills and will share more details once we reach a point where they can be revealed to the public.

Q. Is there a Trait Reset and Loadout Preset system?

trait reset feature has already been implemented. We intend to keep the associated cost low so that players can freely experiment with different strategies and character builds between expeditions without feeling heavily penalized.

As for loadout presets, the feature is currently under consideration. However, we are not yet able to confirm whether it will be included at launch.

This month's NAKWON Note will introduce a few melee weapons and the concept behind their design.

Rather than simply creating tools for combat, we took great care to make sure that each weapon can tell a story of how it came to exist in the game. This article explores the visual presentation and design story behind each weapon.

1. Modified Pickaxe A

Visual Presentation

NAKWON's melee weapons are designed not just to look powerful, but to make you wonder who crafted them—and why.

Built around a simple wooden club, this weapon combined mismatching objects—a button doll, animal bones, and even a carrot. At first glance, it almost looks like a toy. A closer look, however, reveals button eyes, clumsy stitching, and bone ornaments that create an unsettling atmosphere.

While built for survival, we also wanted each weapon to reflect the personality and character of the person who made it.

Design Story

In the wastelands of a zombie apocalypse, weapons are built from whatever materials survivors can find.

Simply putting together random objects wasn't enough to create an atmosphere unique to NAKWON. By adding unusual objects—like a carrot—we wanted to create a weapon that felt both practical and unsettling, with a touch of dark humor.

We hope that a single glance at these weapons is enough to spark imagination about the madness and unique sensibilities of the survivors who inhabit this world.

2. Modified CrowBar A

Visual Presentation

This melee weapon is built from readily available materials, including a pipe, broken tools, wire, and hose clamps.

The handle, wrapped repeatedly with rope and scraps of cloth, along with roughly attached metal parts, reflects years of repairs and modifications made by hand.

Rather than decorating it for style, we designed it to naturally show the marks of a weapon that has been continually repaired and adapted for survival.

Design Story

The defining feature of the weapon is its hook-shaped head.

Rather than being just a simple bludgeon, we wanted it to visually suggest that the weapon was capable of hooking or pulling in its target.

We also refined the handle and lower structure to feel more practical, making the overall weapon design feel like a survivor's tool—not a manufactured product.

3. Modified Axe A

Visual Presentation

Built from a discarded saw blade and salvaged metal parts, this weapon bears the marks of countless repairs and modifications.

Rusted metal, rough welds, and a handle wrapped with a bicycle tire reflect a survivor's determination to make the most of whatever materials were available.

Neon green rope and small personal touches add a hint of individuality, showing that even in a desolate world, people leave traces of who they are.

Design Story

NAKWON's weapons are designed to convey not only their purpose, but also the lives of the people who carried them.

Rather than feeling like streamlined products, we wanted them to look as though they've been continuously repaired and upgraded with whatever parts were needed.

One of our key intents was to let players imagine not only how these weapons are used, but also the journey of how they came to be.

4. Modified IronHammer A

Visual Presentation

The hammer itself is just a rugged tool just like any other weapon, but the medals attached to its head symbolize remnants of the old world.

The contrast between scrap metal and ornate decorations reflects memories too precious to discard, even in an apocalypse.

Chain, leather, and fur wrapped around the handle were placed to add practicality, as if it were added through years of real use.

Design Story

NAKWON's survivors weave their own stories into the weapons they build.

This hammer was designed to be not just a powerful weapon, but also a reflecting the survivor carrying the remnants of the past into the present.

The blend of rugged modifications and personal adornments allows the weapon to tell the story of its maker.

The world of NAKWON is continuing to take shape.

Q. Are there any plans to increase the value of high-tier food that requires a lot of materials?

We are currently reviewing ways to grant additional value to foods that require harder-to-obtain materials. We are considering having different types of food grant various buffs that can support players in their next expedition. Meanwhile, Housing is being developed to influence life and progression within NAKWON rather than expeditions. We are exploring a structure where upgrading furniture improves the efficiency of related activities.

Q. Are there any plans to add a tax system within NAKWON?
(Since NAKWON is basically a large-scale community, perhaps the concept of taxes or upkeep costs would add to the world's realism)

Closed Alpha Test largely focused on the early-game experience, so such features may have been harder to experience. We're currently designing a system where advancing your Citizen Status introduces a wider variety of life events and challenges, such as taxes, fines, and high-difficulty missions. We're also preparing high-risk, high-reward content for players with high Citizen Status, expanding the range of experiences available as they progress.

Q. Are there plans to adjust the Extraction sound design and the difficulty balance between maps?
(Compared to the sirens and announcements that play during Extraction, the Infected's reaction felt weak, creating a disconnect between the presentation and the actual level of danger. Also, some maps and Extraction methods seem to have large difficulty gaps or to be overly influenced by certain skills. We're curious whether the danger and rewards of each Loot Area, as well as Extraction difficulty, will be adjusted to match the dev team's intentions.)

The siren at the public exits is intentionally designed not to lure the Infected. That said, we're aware of the disconnect between the presentation and the actual danger level, and we're reviewing different methods for improvement.
Since NAKWON is designed so that anyone can extract, the difficulty of Extraction itself is set low. Instead, we've structured things so that risk arises during the expeditions and choices you make to earn greater rewards.
Meanwhile, we're currently addressing the fact that the Extraction success rate of the Smoke skill during the Alpha Test was higher than what we anticipated. The difficultyof each landmark will be fine-tuned as well.

Q. Do you plan to add everyday living furniture, such as an air purifier, to the Housing system?
(I'd like to propose a system where you craft an air purifier from materials gathered through expeditions, replace consumable filters, and gain benefits such as recovering some morale within the shelter)

We think the air purifier and the filter system you've proposed is an interesting idea that could be used as a concept for a future season update.
For example, if an environmental change such as worsening air quality occurred in a particular season, we could build content centered on crafting and collecting filters, providing various looting incentives through it. Thank you for the great idea.

Q. Are there plans to add more uses for old currency?
(Currently, old curriency has little use beyond upgrading Citizen Status, so we'd love to be able to use them at in-game vending machines or unmanned shops)

During early stages of development, there was a feature that let you use old currency or destroy vending machines to obtain drinks. We removed that feature in the late stages of development, but we've been reviewing whether to reintroduce it.

Q. Are there plans to give decorative furniture gameplay-related or permanent bonuses?

At this time, we don't have plans to add gameplay stats or permanent buffs to decorative furnitures. We can perhaps revisit the idea of furniture buffs later but we decided it's too early to introduce them for release. We want to focus on expanding progression content first, then introduce additional furniture features in future updates. For now, we'd like housing to remain focused on personal expression and customization.

Q. Are there any plans to introduce more powerful boss-type infected or endgame-focused content?

Our goal is for each new map to offer a unique gameplay experience. To deliver this, each new map will also introduce a new special infected, with unique threats and characteristics unlike players have encountered before. We'll share more details in the future.

Q. Are there plans to introduce unique mechanics or dynamic environment changes to each map?

We're designing unique mechanics for each map so that it can offer a distinct gameplay experience. Instead of real-time environmental changes, we're emphasizing each map's unique layout and gameplay rules. We'll share more details when we reveal future maps.

Q. Are there any plans to add new areas such as the Jongno subway, apartment complexes, or a general hospital?

Subway stations, apartment complexes, and general hospitals are all on our list of potential future map locations. As we develop new maps, these are locations we'll continue to consider. Thank you for the great suggestion.

This month, I'd like to share a community announcement along with a few small development updates.

First, starting this month, we're changing the way we respond to Q&As and suggestions on Discord.

Before: Answering individually whenever time allowed.
Now: Gathering and curating questions on a twice-a-month cadence, then answering them all at once.

Since some questions overlap and occasionally slip through the cracks, we've decided to switch to a format where we collect everything first, then curate and respond.

For this month's Dev Talk, We'd like to briefly share some of the smaller things we've been working on lately. What follows is only a portion of the many items in development. (We'll save the bigger features for a more fitting moment to introduce them.) And since these are still in development, please understand that they may change in the final version.

1. Rework on Trap Skill

The Trap skill from the last Closed Alpha Test was a bit lacking in terms of usability.

Even though there were several types of traps, each active skill slot could only hold one type of trap. As a result, investing in trap-related traits was inefficient. To make traps more usable, we've reworked the trap system itself.

We converted the system so that different trap types, previously determined by the traits, are now handled as a passive skill. allowing all traps to be used through a single active skill.

Now, once you've equipped the trap-placement skill, the part where you use different types of traps based on your trait progression has been turned into passive skills. From now on, you will be able to use all of your traps from a single active skill.

After equipping the trap skill, hold down the key to bring up a ring command that lets you swap between the type of traps. If your character has unlocked different traps from the passive skills, they will be added to the ring command to give you a more variety of traps to choose from.

This approach will not be limited to traps. We plan to expand this feature to other skills with multiple selectable options as well.

2. Labeling Expiration Dates on Food Items

In NAKWON, managing your resources to survive day by day is crucial.

While storing various food items, it was previously difficult to quickly check their expiration dates. But from now on, the expiration date will now be displayed directly on their icon. We believe this will make it much easier to identify which items are nearing expiration without having to check each one individually.

3. Improved Bulk-Move-to-Storage Feature

After a successful expedition, you have to sort and organize your loots.

Since we didn't want that process to be tedious, during the Closed Alpha Test we hastily added a temporary button that moved all materials to the selected storage. However, it was limited to materials only, and the way it worked was far from perfect. So this time we've properly improved it.

Now, holding the Alt key and clicking the item will move all items in that category into storage all at once. Whether you're loading materials into your suitcase, putting all your food into the refrigerator, or gathering just your gear into a specific container, all according to your needs at the moment. Even if the expedition itself was grueling, we want the experience back at your shelter to be comfortable and intuitive.

4. Added Key Bindings

In the Closed Alpha Test, one of the most basic yet missing features during the Closed Alpha was key customization. Many of you pointed out how inconvenient it was to not be able to change key settings.

We're adding those obvious-but-essential features this time around. You can now remap your key settings however you like. We're also working on controller support.

What we’ve shared today is just a small glimpse of what’s currently in development.

As you can catch a glimpse of in the screenshots, several bigger features like alignment and more, are also in the works. We’re intentionally holding back on revealing too much for now, as we’d like to share those at the right moment.

We showed you plenty of fun things during the Alpha Test, but we have many more going forward. Some features, even in their early stages, are already creating memorable moments during internal testing.

We can't wait to show them to you, and to see all of you enjoying them for yourselves.

We’re continuing to work hard on development, and really looking forward to the day we can meet you again.

We’re excited to introduce the very first edition of 'NAKWON Note' where we’ll be sharing development updates, behind-the-scenes insights, and stories from the team.

In this first entry, we’re giving you a sneak peek of our new map, “Shopping Mall.”

Concept of the Map

This large scale shopping complex features a casino, luxury boutiques, and a megamart. It was once home to a thriving community of survivors.

In the early days of the outbreak, survivors relied on supplies from the mart. Over time, they moved into the luxury wing, bringing in mattresses and daily essentials to create a shelter where they could eat, sleep, and survive. Casino chips were adopted as a new form of currency, and parts of the mall were turned into playgrounds and makeshift farms.

To protect themselves from the infected and other hostile survivors, they set up checkpoints at the entrances. However, conflict eventually broke out between the survivor group in the mall and the NAKWON Governance Committee. At the end, the mall became an expedition zone for NAKWON.

But there are some unsettling traces left behind. The structures set in the underground parking lot resemble a fighting arena, and the VIP rooms in the casino suggest that people continued to indulge in luxury even after the outbreak.

Many untold stories remain buried in the shopping mall, and it awaits your exploration.

Our Approach and Intentions

Originally, all the expeditions in NAKWON were supposed to take place only within Jongno.

However, after the Pre-Alpha test, the demand for new regions increased significantly. This made us reconsider our approach.

We had to pick somewhere other than Jongno, and in the process we found ourselves asking a fundamental question: “What is the reason for introducing a new map in the first place?”

When players enter a new map for the first time, they're bound to expect something they've never experienced before — which naturally led us to ask: what can we offer that Jongno North and South never did? That question became the driving force behind the new map.

To achieve this, we decided that the foundation of the space itself had to change.

Unlike the open, urban layout of Jongno, we began exploring vertical environments across Seoul. We ended up choosing a large shopping mall in Yeongdeungpo area as our core inspiration.

We reworked this massive indoor space to better fit NAKWON's gameplay. Areas that were relatively less interesting, such as movie theaters, were removed, and more interactive and engaging features such as casinos were added to improve the experience.

At the same time, we went beyond the idea of a simple mall full of resources. Instead, we shaped it into a former survivor stronghold to add more depth to its narrative.

Because this map takes place entirely indoors, unlike previous expedition areas, we had to redesign the expedition routes and extraction method from the ground up. This naturally led to new vertical paths where players move floor by floor. It also required a new map layout system capable of viewing multiple floors.

Though this new map is still in development, we believe it will offer a new kind of experience that sets it apart from anything we have shown before. We are working hard to make sure it delivers moments that truly stand out when you finally get to play it.

Q. I saw that pet-related features were tied to quests and thought it might be a good idea to if battle or season passes gave players dogs or cats, along with other pet-related outfits and items?

We're reviewing the pet system and much remains undecided. There are still many possibilities regarding its scope and implementation but we’ll take your feedback into consideration as part of the review.

Q. Is it possible to add actions that allow players to organize or clean up the interiors of early shelters?

We’re reviewing features that would allow players to customize floors, walls, shelters and other elements. We’ll consider your feedback as we explore possible improvements.

Q. Could Korean relics such as Joseon-era armor appear as rare equipment or collectible items within the apocalypse setting?

The idea of using Korean traditional armor as equipment could add a unique layer of fun to the world. If future expedition maps included museums in the area, we’d be happy to consider it alongside them.

Q. Could you introduce a system in which weather and environmental conditions affect survival?

We are positively reviewing the addition of weather-related special effects. However, rather than implementing them at launch, we are considering introducing them later through seasonal updates or limited-time events.

Q. Is there a possibility of adding a first-person POV?

At the moment, the game is designed to switch to a first-person POV only when using firearms. We are not considering a full-time first-person POV, as it does not best align with the intended core gameplay.

Q. Are there plans to introduce new types of infected? (Combat and exploration would feel even more engaging if new special type of infected with unique behaviors such as ranged attackers, self-destructing units, or highly mobile climbers were introduced. It would also be interesting to encounter new infected with characteristics tied to their former roles, such as firefighters or security personnel)

We are currently developing new types of infected which, like the existing ones, will each have their own distinct characteristics and roles. We’re also exploring ideas similar to those you've suggested, and some of these may be introduced in future map updates.

Q. Are there plans to improve animation and sound quality?

We are continuously working on both animation and sound quality. Both character and zombies' movements are being refined to feel more natural and we are further improving our sound design to deliver a stronger sense of space and immersion.

Game Systems · Matchmaking · Housing

Q. Will Safe Pockets be introduced to the game?

At this time, we don't have any plans to introduce any sort of safe pocket system.

Safe pockets can reduce early frustration by allowing players to retain items after failed extractions, but over time, they may weaken both the tension and the sense of achievement that come from extracting successfully.

Rather than layering safety nets, we believe that maintaining a constant sense of losing out can lead to a more compelling experience. We still need to protect beginners, but this should be addressed through other systems rather than through safe pockets.

Q. Will matchmaking based on player aggressiveness (a.k.a Karma system) be introduced?

There are currently no plans to implement karma-based matchmaking, but we do plan to introduce a skill-based MMR system.

The MMR system will not rely solely on combat performance, but will evaluate multiple aspects of gameplay, including looting behavior, engagements, and survival time. Our goal is to match new players with fellow beginners, while experienced players are paired with others of similar skill.

Q. Are there plans to expand the housing system (e.g., allowing friends to visit)?

Allowing friends to visit each other’s shelters is a feature our dev team would love to implement.
However, due to technical limitations and development resource constraints, it is not planned for the near term.
We hope to revisit it when conditions allow.

Q. Will a player-to-player marketplace (flea market) be added?

We initially considered a player marketplace, but after reviewing the Closed Alpha Test results, the feature is currently on hold.

Our main concern is that player trading could replace in-game looting as the primary way to acquire items, shifting gameplay toward simply earning market currency and purchasing whatever you need. We believe this diminishes NAKWON’s core gameplay pillars. For now, our direction is on preserving the experience of earning items directly through in-game rounds.

Combat · Weapons · Equipment

Q. Will weapons and armor have random stats or reroll systems?

Weapons and armor will have fixed base stats, with additional gear options having random stats.

Random options will be assigned only when items are obtained through looting or crafting, ensuring that these items have value above shop purchases. Stat rerolls were considered, but given the genre’s inherent risk of loss, we decided against them, as they could significantly amplify the sense of loss.

Q. Gun drop rates felt too high during the test. Will they be adjusted?

Gun drop rates will be continuously adjusted.
Our priority is to ensure that guns do not disrupt the overall game balance, and we will continue refining systems to support that goal.

Q. Will bags and luggages be customizable?

Yes. Both bags and luggages will be developed as a customizable cosmetic item.

Q. Will infection-resistant equipment, such as gas masks, be added to the game?

I think this could be explored as a special function or option attached helmets.
We may also consider making certain helmet types particularly effective in infection resistance.

Q. Will long-range weapons, such as crossbows, be added to the game?

At the moment, we are not actively considering it. Crossbows can be highly efficient relative to their noise level, which could undermine the tension that players should feel while playing NAKWON.

Infected · AI · Maps · Environment

Q. Could you add Infected enemies using firearms?

Our current direction is clear: we want to avoid portraying the infected as intelligent entities capable of using firearms like humans.

If gun-wielding enemies are ever introduced, they would more likely be hostile human NPCs rather than infected.
That said, there are currently no development plans for such NPCs either.

Q. Will new maps continue to be released after launch?

Our current launch target includes four maps.
Beyond that, our ideal goal is to introduce one new map per quarter, though this schedule is yet to be confirmed.

Q. Will weather have a greater impact on gameplay?

Weather conditions were present in the Closed Alpha Test, but their impact on gameplay was limited.
Currently, fog weather is active in North Jogno, and we aim to further expand weather systems to create more meaningful effects on visibility, movement, and overall playstyle.

Game Modes · Story · Campaign

Q. Time limit for each expedition sometimes feels too tight. Will it be adjusted?

Time limits will be adjusted based on each map’s size and difficulty.
Currently, 25 minutes feels appropriate for North and South Jongno, but this may be tuned over time based on gameplay data.

Q. Will a free expedition mode or a unified large map be added?

The technical challenges involved in creating a fully connected, unified map are extremely high and are not part of our immediate plans.
For now, we are focusing on optimizing the existing maps. This may be reconsidered in the future as part of our very long-term goals.

Q. Are there plans to introduce traveling merchants or smuggler shops during expeditions?

Encounter-based shop systems are an interesting idea, but due to structural challenges and costs, there are currently no plans for them at the moment.
That said, a dedicated map built around this concept may be considered in the future.

Q. Will there be more activities available in the city (NAKWON) area?

Adding more activities within the city is a long-term goal.
Not all features will be available at launch, but they are part of our mid-to-long-term development plans.

Quality of Life (QoL) · UI/UX

Q. Are there plans to improve QoL features such as storage, quests, and hotkeys?

The Closed Alpha Test focused primarily on core gameplay, so many QoL features were not fully addressed. For full release, we plan to continuously improve overall usability. In addition to the points mentioned above, we will also introduce clearer UI features, such as food expiration indicators and a screenshot mode.

Q. Will skill presets or key storage system be added?

We believe skill presets are necessary and are currently discussing how best to implement them.
We are also considering a dedicated key storage so that having multiple keys does not waste inventory space.

Q. Will social features such as recent players, friends, and reporting be enhanced?

Yes. They were limited during the Closed Alpha Test, but we're reviewing social features such as recent players lists, friend add/block options, and reporting systems for full release.

The update was delayed due to post-test wrap-up and internal reviews, and we sincerely appreciate your patience.

In this Dev Talk, we would like to share our reflections on the Close Alpha Test, as well as our plans and our direction moving forward.

First and foremost, we would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the Close Alpha Test and spent their time enjoying the game.

Thanks to your support and encouragement, our development team feels more motivated than ever to continue pushing forward.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of you who took part in the test.

1. Reflections on the Close Alpha Test

Our previous Pre-Alpha test was developed with the single goal of creating a game that can be tested as soon as possible, and the build itself was completed in roughly 11 months. Thus, it was difficult to properly layer full-fledged systems and features on top.

As a result, after the Pre-Alpha test, we made the decision to rebuild the entire game from the ground up.
The Alpha version you played during the Close Alpha Test is mostly a new build, developed over the course of approximately two and a half years.

The primary goal of this Alpha was to fully realize the core gameplay that we could only imagine during the Pre-Alpha phase.

In our desire to include as much as possible, development continued right up until the day before the Close Alpha Test began.
As a result, some elements remained unstable or insufficiently polished. Despite this, we are truly grateful that you embraced and enjoyed the many different situations and experiences that could unfold in NAKWON.

Thanks to your encouragement, we are now ready to prepare for the next step.

2. Feedback

Through the Close Alpha Test, we received a wide range of both positive and negative feedback.

We plan to improve on the aspects that felt lacking, while further strengthening the elements players found enjoyable.

For this Alpha version, development focused primarily on verifying whether each feature functioned properly.
Given the limited timeframe, there were areas where overall quality could not be polished to the level we intended.

As a result, we plan to improve overall quality across player and Infected (zombie) animations, as well as sound design throughout the game.

e.g. A feature that allows the character’s head to turn naturally based on the player’s viewing direction.
Please note that this is a work-in-progress, and the final implementation may differ.

We also plan to overhaul the tutorial and add a dedicated training area to help players adapt more easily during the early stages of the game, and practice the combat system.

In addition, we are planning to introduce various quality-of-life features.

We plan to display key details, such as expiration dates and item categories, directly on item icons, alongside features like automatic storage management to reduce repetitive inconvenience during the gameplay.

Until now, we focused heavily on showcasing core gameplay, which meant many details could not receive adequate attention.
As we move on, we plan to take the time to refine and polish these areas.

3. Expanding the Core Experience

We believe it is difficult to answer the question, “What makes NAKWON fun?” with a single definition.

If we had to describe it in one sentence, it would be the enjoyment that comes from living alongside other people. Since everyone approaches life differently, those experiences naturally vary.

That is why our next goal is to add depth to each of those different ways of living.

First, to deepen individual goals, we plan to add various types of quests.
Quests with time limits (measured in in-game days), or quests with meaningful choices, can create far more diverse experiences than before.

For example, there may be NPC quests where you must risk half of your stored food to achieve a goal within five days, or quests where the final reward changes depending on how many times a certain action is performed over three days.

Second, we will significantly improve the housing feature.

To expand the fun of customizing your shelter, we plan to add features such as wall-mounted installations, customization of interior elements (flooring, wallpaper, ceilings), and the ability to change your expedition gears such as backpacks and carriers.

Third, we are preparing to diversify the expedition by introducing a wider variety of environments.

In addition to the two existing maps in the Jongno area, we are currently preparing two new maps.
One of them is a shopping mall area.

Our goal is for new maps to go beyond being visually different, and instead offer a fundamentally different gameplay.
As such, the shopping mall map is being designed around vertically connected spaces, unlike our existing maps.

We aim to deliver experiences such as a massive central plaza spanning from the 1st to the 4th or 5th floors, and large marts connected on the basement floors. This will allow players to see others moving through the space at a glance.

Furthermore, we are preparing unique settings and Aberrant Infected that fit naturally within the shopping mall map.

e.g. In-development screenshots of the shopping mall area currently under development.
As these are taken from a work-in-progress build, the final version may differ.

4. Other Updates

In addition to the systems mentioned above, we are also developing features that are not yet ready to be fully revealed, including PvE-focused expedition modes, social stats such as personality or reputation, new skills, and additional quality-of-life features.

We will share more details on these as they become ready.

If the Close Alpha Test marked the completion of the game’s foundation, the road ahead focuses on building content and adding meaningful depth to it.

We firmly believe that it is important to present the game only once it has sufficient content to sustain long-term play.

As much as you continue to wait for us, we are committed to repaying that patience with a better and more enjoyable game.

Bug Fixes

Fixed the animation sequence when returning from expeditions (UI time sequence).

Fixed so that Infected enemies knocked down by the “Rope Dart” can no longer be “Eliminated” for a certain duration.

Translation Fixes:
- Fixed UI overflow and line breaks issues in the “Daily Events” probability area.
- Fixed the issue with the Key Resource Intel title appearing smaller than intended.

Fixed the issue where other players’ tablets could not be discarded or moved inside the inventory.

Fixed the issue where replacing your own tablet with another player’s tablet caused it to be locked in the inventory, unable to be moved or discarded.

Fixed the issue where the “Footwork skill” did not produce any noise when used.

Fixed the issue where solo status was not immediately updated after declining a party invitation.

Fixed the issue where “Rolling skill” would be repeatedly triggered.

Fixed the amount of material yielded from dismantling “Rare-grade" crafted items.

Fixed the issue where “Raw Material” was missing from the Nail Bat crafting requirements.

Improvements

Improved initial graphics settings so that it’s no longer set too low on PCs exceeding recommended settings.

Improved stability by setting “FSR Frame Generation (FG)” default to “OFF" on NVIDIA graphics card settings to reduce potential crashes.

Matchmaking now prioritizes players with similar skill levels.

Matchmaking conditions will expand if matchmaking exceeds 50 seconds.

#Known Issues

If the game crashes during gameplay, please follow the steps below:

Steam > Library > Right-click NAKWON:LAST PARADISE > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of beta files.
Update Windows and your graphics card drivers to the latest version.
Uninstall the NAKWON:LAST PARADISE Steam app and reinstall.

Any other third-party anti-cheat programs running in the background may conflict with EAC and cause the client to shut down.

Close third-party anti-cheat programs then reconnect to the game.

Stacked items may occasionally split or merge one at a time when moved

Some item quantities may change unexpectedly, causing inconvenience during gameplay (total quantity remains the same)

Character's voice may differ from the selected option during character creation (occurs once on first creation)

Tooltips for two-handed weapons may sometimes appear in gear slots

Character can get stuck in a container when spawning at the Shelter

Temporarily resolved by re-launching the client

Error message may appear when upgrading Crafting Bench to Lv. 3 (only when crafting materials are in the Plastic Box)

Store materials in the Bag or Suitcase before upgrading the bench

Character may clip into an Infected when using Charge Skill on one positioned in a corner

Use Charge Skill again

(During matchmaking) All areas may appear unlocked on Expedition Area selection screen after visiting Shooting Range
