We're thrilled to announce the release of Turf Wars - A Snail Escape. Mark your calendars for November 30th, 2023. Dive into a world where snails aren't just slow-moving garden creatures, but agile slime-shooting warriors!🐌
All of the late nights, the brainstorming, the countless play-tests... it's all been for this moment. And we can't wait for you to experience the magic at the unbeatable price of $5.99 USD (or equivalent in your currency).
Here is some facts on the launch version on the game

Supported languages: English, but it's gameplay focus game so don't worry if it isnt your preferred language
Supported controllers: You can use both Keyboard/Mouse and any controller you might have.
Number of players: It's a single player experience only
Expected length: It's a roguelike so it all depends on you. There will be 5 areas with 5 unique bosses, 47 different enemies and 21 different items that can be upgrades in many ways. You can also replay the game on hard and ultra mode once you have beaten the game once.

What is Turf Wars: A Snail Escape?
This is an action roguelike twin-stick shooter, where the focus is on movement and controlling the battleground using your slime abilities. Stay on your turf at all time while the slimy enemies try to cover you in enemy slime. The full game will include 5 areas with unique enemies, bosses and slime types and is aimed to launch in the second half of 2023.
Why this demo?
I want to hear from more people what they think so I can make it as good as possible. Write a message in the steam forum, or upload a video on youtube of you playing, I will read and watch it all. The main things I want to hear about is:

Did you enjoy the game?
Did you feel it was too easy or difficult, and in that case which areas felt unbalanced?
Did you encounter any nasty bugs (the other kind)?

New trailer is out, which I spent way to much time working on. What do you think? I have also done lots of playtesting and some nice improvements to the game to prepare for the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which is the next big milestone I'm aiming for. I have also spent a lot of time with accessibility options since I want everyone to be able to play the game the way they want to. If you want you can check out the release notes below:
Demo Release notes

Added 4 difficulty settings (easy, normal and 2 harder modes that unlock if finishing the game on previous difficulty). The different difficulties change player health, number of enemies per level and boss health.
Holding fire buttons will fire weapon when reloaded (to avoid having to spam buttons)
Autofire accessibility option - Makes your primary always fire when reloaded without player input required
Possible to skip the gem box opening animation by pressing shoot-button
Color rewards UX changes
Changed so you have to click a button to interact with the Snail NPCs (instead of walking into them)
Boss “The Queen and the Hive” added new attack and balancing to avoid spamming attacks
New upgrade: Crossed Explosions - Makes Jelly Bomb, Slime Mines or Home Pillar explode in a large cross pattern
New upgrade: Baseball Bat - Makes Splat Blade hit a small slime ball each swing
New upgrade: Splat Yourself - Passive power upgrade that lets you spread splat around you every couple of seconds
Balancing changes
This is where I need your feedback the most. I'm completely blind to the difficulty, so please let me know if you feel the game is too easy or too hard, and also what gaming experience you have. This is the changes I have done based on recent playtests:

Bee enemies movement speed increased
Bee enemies fire delay decreased
All primary weapons reload speed decreased
Time between enemy respawns decreased
1 more bee-enemy spawn each area on normal and easy difficulty
Unlocked Hard & Ultra difficulty from the start in demo build
Bug fixes

Fixed some audiobugs with music not turning off correctly
Fixed bug that made it possible to trigger double amount of enemies in next area
Fixed bug that made Splatterang deal a crazy amount of damage
Fixed bug that game permanently could break if you remapped controls in certain ways (this fix needed all saved remappings to be reset, sorry about that)
What’s happening next? I am eagerly looking forward to the Steam Next Fest where I can hopefully get even more player feedback, and get ready for the final release. Im aiming for a Fall 2023 release at the moment, but let's see how that goes...

Bad news: I’ve been on vacation and made slower than normal progress this month. Good news: The game is almost finished. So where are we at with it and when can you play the full thing?
What is done?

The last boss, Princess Polka Dot, is done. A karate chopping lady bug high up in the treetops. Think she might be my most challenging but also favorite boss so far. What do you think of the name? Any other ideas?
End credit scene: I wanted it to be satisfying for those of you who manage to reach the end so I have spent some time making a fun little cutscene for you all. I like it, so I hope you will too.
Treetops content: I have been adding content in the form of fun rooms and more enemy types. Think this area is shaping up
Bugs: I am playtasting like crazy and am still finding stuff, doing my best to fix it all before the launch.
What is not done?

Before launch I have a couple of areas and bosses I want to polish up. I also plan to make sure to balance it as well as I can.
Steam achievements. Not critical but I really want to have some, so working on adding a few ones.
More upgrades and items. My idea list is still quite long and I have a couple I want to add for launch. I will have to draw the line somewhere and add the rest as future DLC, but a few more I think I can add.
Testing… mentioned it above, but really want to have a smooth launch, so won’t try to rush it.
I have also signed up for Steam Next Fest in June, so I plan to release an improved version of the demo for that, and also prepare a stream where I play the full version of the game. Really excited about that.

Hey! Since the last update I have been working hard polishing and refining the game to make everything that happen after escaping the lawn much better. But since you won't be able to see that in the demo (yet), here comes a list of the improvements you CAN see:
New Weapons
I will admit, I might have started to go a bit crazy

Freeze Ray - Lock slime in place so no scary bug can try to claim it later on. Frozen slime is forever yours. Great to combine with other weapons
Machine Slime - Shoot three bullets in rapid succession to scare away even the bravest of bugs
Splatterang - Throw a splatterang out in the wild and wait for it to return to you. Hard to master, but really powerful if you manage to reposition yourself fast
Flying Star - To be honest, I don't know what the hell this is, I just had lots of fun with it after accidentally creating it
Other Upgrades - Be able to have multiple primaries, reload weapons even when not on your turf, instant reloads, and new unique upgrades for a lot of the existing weapons.
Other things

Fixed so many bugs that my head starts spinning... and I'm sure there is more, so keep reporting them. Splatting bugs has become my specialty now
Added some new cool enemy types in the later areas... you dont want to face of against a Laser Wallflower or an Exploding Woodlouse
Added more variation to the procedurally generated rooms
There is so much I want to add but I will try to keep next month super-focused to get the later areas closer to a finished state. No new weapons... or at least I'll try

Hey! Since releasing the demo I've gotten some great feedback from so many of you, and I have really been enjoying watching you spreading your turfs. I've gotten a much better sense of what works and in which areas the game can be improved. And I have been working hard making the game a lot better. So here is the release notes for the latest version of the demo:
Balancing changes
Main goal is to make the gameplay a bit faster and rewarding aggressive play-styles more

Upped the aggression of many enemies by having them fly towards the player and attack
Reduced cooldown of all primary weapons
Increased the bullet speed of all shooting abilities and increased length of Frog Tongue and Splat Blade
Reduced prize of in-run upgrades and unlocking of new starting weapons to allow for more experimentation
Reduced speed boost effect of green slime (to not having your snail go complexity insane combining it with other abilities)
Quality of life & improvements

Added an indicator on the gun when the primary weapon reloads
Added confirmation messages if trying to dismiss rewards
Added new upgrade type Indestructible Bullets (that can be combined with all other upgrades)
Added more variation in room layouts
Bugs (not the enemy type)

Fixed the button indicators to display correctectly no matter if you use controller or keyboard (based on your last input)
Removed button remapping from the home base area due some errors reported (option still available from settings menu)
Fixed in-run shop not working correct in some cases
At the same time I’m working on finishing one of the last areas of the game…The Treetops, featuring 8 new enemies, a new slime type, unique mechanics and obstacles and a nasty boss to finish it off. More will be revealed later, I promise

Note that the demo contains an Alpha build of the game, and many parts could still change for the final version
I like the demo, when can I play the final version?
We are still working on finishing the last areas, adding more weapons and creating an overall better experience. The planned release date is yet to be announced, but add it to your wishlist and you will be notified when we announce more info.
