Hey Wanderers!
Thank you all so much for participating in some recent community shenanigans, whilst our team work on more plans for Escape the Backrooms. That includes the Backrooms Bracket over on Discord last month, crowning our winner in Level Fun+! (Sorry Level 188 fans.) We’ve also kicked off our community clips showcase over on TikTok and collaborated with the amazing Ins0mic on creating an in-engine lyric video of “You Day.”
A few months ago, we released a roadmap outlining future updates to Escape the Backrooms. Unexpected technical challenges have meant changes to the timeline on some of the content we wanted to deliver.
Before going any further, we should stress that the launch of Escape the Backrooms on Xbox and PlayStation remains on track for this summer. There’s no further delay here and we’re excited to welcome console players to the backrooms! In fact, we will have some exciting news on these very soon – watch this (liminal) space.
This post aims to answer some questions and provide transparency on key topics we have observed within the community. Moving forward, a roadmap or timeline for game additions and changes will not be shared. Instead, to ensure our updates to you are always accurate, we'll regularly drop in with news on upcoming plans and progress. That begins today; by addressing some hot topics we've been tracking with the community.
You want levels. We want levels. Everyone wants levels – and as we previously confirmed, new levels are set to come to Escape the Backrooms. Additional levels will be introduced after the upcoming console launch for the game - this is to allow our developers as much time as possible to polish and smoothen up the console versions.
In recent weeks we've been doubling down on our community research - with the help of our amazing Discord Staff and Playtesters – to pinpoint exactly what players want in new levels. With this information, and after conversations with Fancy on their wishes and previous level design work, we can make informed decisions on future levels that is driven by your input. We want to do this right.
When we have something concrete in place, our aim is to show work-in-progress shots and previews of these levels; something you folks have highly requested.
As always, any game update comes with further fixes and improvements, and wherever possible, reports on Feature Upvote are prioritized. At the same time as the upcoming console launch, there will also be an update on Steam that not only enables cross-platform matchmaking but also addresses more community reports and adds more technical improvements.
It would be wrong for us to also not talk about cosmetics. We've taken on feedback from players across the globe on cosmetic additions, like Wanderer suits, to keep in mind as we work on future drops. We’re ensuring that the use of these cosmetics is entirely optional for everyone and does not affect the gameplay in any fashion – apart from a fun visual change, if you wish!
