The Forest
The events take place one year after the fire that destroyed the Raven Hills psychiatric hospital.
For a while, the town believed the nightmare had ended with the flames. But in the quiet outskirts, where the forest pressed close and the roads fell silent, people began to disappear.
At first, it was a hunter who failed to return. Then a pair of hikers. A forestry worker. A teenager who had wandered too far past dusk. By the end of the year, 57 people had vanished into the woods.
Search teams were assembled again and again, combing the forests and pushing deeper toward the abandoned mines that honeycombed the hills beyond Raven Hills. Аrmed patrols swept every tunnel they could reach. On several occasions, they discovered tracks—deep, heavy impressions pressed into the damp earth, far too large to belong to any known animal in the region. At first, it seemed like progress. But the trails never led anywhere. The tracks ended mid-stride, as though the creature had vanished into thin air.
Rumors began to spread that all these events were connected to rituals once carried out in the burned-down psychiatric hospital, and that something had escaped the fire and fled into the woods that night—something neither entirely human nor wholly animal.
