The Flagship Devlog#9

Hello everyone, and welcome to the dev log for The Flagship.
First and foremost, we’ve overhauled our node and encounter system. Previously, a challenge run would guide players through a series of nodes, each featuring a single encounter—whether that was a battle, puzzle, or another event. While this structure works well for many roguelike games, it didn’t quite fit The Flagship A space battleship simulator cannot exist without exploration.

In the new system, each node now supports multiple types of encounters, such as combat, treasure chests, or other gameplay elements. While key encounters remain essential for progression, optional ones allow players to explore at their own pace, uncovering hidden secrets and experiencing a greater sense of adventure. This redesign not only enriches each node but also introduces a layer of randomized exploration, adding depth and variety to your journey. While this change complicates node configuration, it unlocks a universe of possibilities for dynamic and engaging gameplay.
To complement these changes, we’re refining other related systems, starting with the AI. NPCs now have more complex behaviors beyond just combat
On the mini-games front, we’ve implemented several core features to test these new mechanisms. For instance, players can now interact with destructible crates or unlock hidden rewards.

We’ve also introduced the afterburner booster as a new type of equipment item. Players can now customize their speed and maneuverability by equipping different booster types. Additionally, we’ve streamlined the combat interface by switching to an icon-based weapon display. This change frees up screen space for critical information while creating a cleaner, more organized layout that helps you stay focused on the action.

That's all for this dev log. Thank you for your support and attention to The Flagship. Until next time!
