The Flagship Devlog #6

Hello everyone, and welcome to the new devlog for The Flagship. In this update, we’re focusing on further optimizing the combat experience.
First, We made more optimizations to the main cannon shooting mechanics. To enhance the experience of engaging small targets, we’ve implemented a series of improvements. We’ve introduced a new reticle snapping feature, which performed exceptionally well in initial tests and significantly improved accuracy against small targets. Additionally, we’ve refined the soft-locking mechanism, constraining target selection within a specific range to prevent counterintuitive outcomes. To further validate these improvements, we’ve also included long-range weapons in our shooting experience tests, ensuring the overall shooting mechanics are more polished.

Next, we’ve updated the shield system. We’ve added visual effects for shield hits, making combat more intuitive. The manual shield’s visual representation has also been changed to a spherical display with independent hit detection, providing players with more precise defensive feedback.

In terms of broadside firing,or directed firing, we’ve adjusted the laser reticle to support charge aiming. This means side firing is no longer just about mindless hits but now emphasizes skill and strategy.

Additionally, we’ve added a chaotic shooting trait to directed firing when targeting locked enemies, Make shooting feel less repetitive

The missile system has also received significant updates. We’ve incorporated predictive tracking capabilities into the tracking algorithm, with certain missiles now utilizing this higher-hit-rate tracking method to improve overall combat efficiency. Regarding the firing mechanism, we’ve simplified the controls: single-tap to fire one missile, double-tap to launch a full salvo. This makes the operation more intuitive and reduces unnecessary distractions.
For subturrets, we’ve expanded their range by adding a CIWS-style close-range vulcan, a long-range pulse laser, and a long range flak. Subturrets also inherit the chaotic shooting trait.
Finally, we’ve added tutorial instructions to help new players get up to speed faster. These tutorials are accessible from the pause menu under “Tutorials” and currently cover the basics of movement, offensive tactics, and survival concepts.
We hope you’ll enjoy these changes. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please share them in the comments. Thank you all for your support. We’ll continue to work hard to refine and enhance the gaming experience.
