Short Dev Update #2

Dear players,

I wanted to give you a short update on the current development progress. The main feature of the next update will be the level editor which allows you to create your own planetary missions and to share them with your friends.

In my last post three weeks ago I mentioned that placing/rotating/scaling objects already works. I spent the last days on a "paint" feature to allow you to create roads and other surface mods. I also reworked the controls of the level editor to avoid any confusion when building your levels.

The level editor is the main feature I am working on, but I also work on many other topics to improve the game. For example, with the next update your crew members will no longer spawn at the exact same spot. Instead, they will start in a proper formation.

There will also be new settings for adjusting the controls. For instance, you will be able to set in which environment you want to be able to move the screen by moving the mouse cursor to the screen border.

I also worked on improvements of the enemy AI and topics like encounter balancing and generation. With the next update, enemies won't be placed in walls any more. Instead, they will be placed properly in the ships.

A new bonus card will also allow you to manipulate encounter strengths. So far, the encounters are always balanced, i.e. your enemies will have rougly the same strength as you do. Using the new bonus card, the encounters are more... random.

But wait, there is more! While working on the level editor, I did a lot of maintenance work on the game engine. As a result, launching the game will be around 60% faster and the last memory leaks were fixed!

As you can see, I am working on a lot of things right now. You can always get the latest information on my Twitter feed. I hope to finish the update until 8th or 15th December.
