The time has come soon: two professional file formats for 3D CAD will be included in the CUR3D Steam Edition via DLC.

Some people are familiar with the * .step or * .stp and * .iges or * .igs file formats for professional reasons. Both have established themselves well in the areas of architecture and product development, as they support object trees and colors and still remain somewhat editable.

Brief information about *.step/ *.stp

STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product model data) is a standard for describing product data. In addition to the physical, it also includes functional aspects of a product. STEP is formally defined in ISO standard 10303. Due to the standardization, it is suitable for data exchange between different systems. Product data information for the entire life cycle can be mapped within STEP. It is therefore suitable for many different areas of application or systems such as computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), product data management (PDM), digital mock-up (DMU) and computer-aided engineering (CAE).

Brief information about *.iges/ *.igs

The Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES) defines a neutral, manufacturer-independent data format that is used for the digital exchange of information between computer-aided design programs (CAD). The application ranges from traditional, two-dimensional drawings to three-dimensional models for simulations or manufacturing. The data is stored in individual units, the so-called entities. These can be arranged in any hierarchy. The primitives of a drawing or a model (such as lines, curves, surfaces) are represented by different entity types. Since the IGES specification version 5, bodies are also provided. This means that a closed surface association also has the information "inside" and "outside".

CUR3D Steam Edition will soon support both file formats via DLC. With the correct settings, loss-free miniatures and error-free 1: 1 models of the 3D data can be 3D printed.
