So, here comes the freshest thing to grace the forum of Don't Die! (Do I put two !'s? I mean, there's already one in the title of the game, plus I want to add one for looks....)
As the first Dev Diary, let's take this time to talk about what has been happening lately.
Recent developments and changes
- For starters, we are preparing for the alpha test later in the month. We are within a few weeks of testing so if you're not on the testing team, get on board!
- Abilities has changed from a countdown style use to one use of each per attempt. The UI has also been updated to reflect this. You can see the concept here. This is a minor change to see how the feel of the game goes and will be one of many things tested in the game.
- Different levels have been made, however they have been locked in any public/testing builds of the game until they are complete. Just got some stuff to work on.
- The game is setup with Steam and works properly with the Steam client so now I can get back to work on adding content.
- Achievements and Leaderboards are not on the list for this week. The Steam API works with the game and that's all that was needed from this build. We will begin working more in depth with achievements and leaderboards once the base game is more or less final in appearance and should be done by the beta rounds.
- An idea came up to create a modding tool for user-made levels. While that will be great, it is beyond the scope for now. Until such software can be added to the development schedule, we encourage players to send in their ideas for levels and, if supported, those levels will be added in the regular free updates.
- As stated above, we are preparing for the alpha test. There are some minor tweaks that need to be done before testing may start, but once that's all done, it will go into alpha. So, relatively small list of gameplay developments this go around, but between setting up marketing and Steam API, quite a bit was done. The more of that I can get done this early, the more I can focus on building on those API and system functions and just focus on adding content. Keep posted on my Twitter or the Templarius Games Studios Twitter for updated information in realtime. I'll keep you all updated on future updates! Michael "Arylos" Cox
