Hi All!
A little late than we had hoped, but let's take some time to walk through the new additions in the latest major update!
Store Page Refresh
We have a brand new trailer and all new screenshots up on the store page. Check them out to see a lot of this new content in action!
Major Performance Improvements
v2.1.0 (released a day after v2.0.0) included a patch to massively improve rendering performance across the game. You should see a substantial boost and we even had a tester running Insane quality on 4K resolution at ~50FPS. So definitely give the game a try and see if your FPS have improved! :)
The New Location
We've added a brand new location, The Forest, to the game. You'll leave the claustrophobic confines of the office building and burst into a large, open area. As you explore the hills, you'll find some remnants of the old inhabitants and learn a bit more of the story. With howling wind, intense rain, dense fog and the horrors of the undead, it will make a fun picnic outing.
This location is explored over three different scenarios: a brand new campaign scenario, a new Onslaught scenario and a new Experiments scenario.
Campaign - Faith
This next chapter is told out of order chronologically (as the city location will precede it) but due to development needs it was built first. In Faith, your story picks up as you escaped from the city but your car broke down in the highlands. As you fight through the weather, you'll begin to come across the remnants of other survivors and begin to learn a bit more of the truth as you attempt to repair a vehicle to escape.
Featuring more classic puzzles from the days of survival horror past, you'll need to read logs, search the environment based on clues and find everything you need to survive. With almost no visibility and light, the undead can come up from any direction. Good luck!
Onslaught - Forest
The latest Onslaught level presents a slightly new take on the classic formula. With more room to navigate (larger passageways) you'll find you have maneuverability that simply wasn't possible in the office location. But be careful, those wide passageways can work against you as the zombies become literal walls blocking you into corners. With far more ground to cover, you need to keep on your toes, search for supplies and battle the incoming threats.
Experiments - Countdown
Relive the glory days of a classic survival horror bonus mode as you race against the clock. In Countdown, there is a timer always decreasing and you're dead when it hits zero. Kill enemies and perform melee attacks to gain more time. But if you heal... you'll be penalized. This mode is all about memorization, so make sure to spend a few attempts just learning the map and layout. And if you make it all the way to the end... something horrible is waiting for you.
Nightmare Difficulty
Did you think Biohazard Difficulty was rough? Then great ready for pure torture. Nightmare ups the ante by making enemies incredibly deadly - one hit and you're gone. Any mistake is immediately punished, an imperfect run results in immediate failure. But the apocalypse isn't totally unforgiving - you'll find your own abilities greatly enhanced. Firearms will do a bit more damage... but melee attacks will be absolutely destructive towards enemies. A level 25 Kane is a force to be reckoned with on this mode.
Other Additions
In addition to these major features, there's a ton of small bug fixes and enhancements included. From improvements to explosion smoke graphics, to buffing explosion radius, to adding explosive barrels and more, the little bits of polish keep falling into place. Even a few menus have been cleaned up, like the control type selection screen.
So What's Coming Next?
This was a major patch, so you can expect updates will be a little bit less frequent for a bit as we work on the next major additions.
In the coming weeks, we will be focusing a bit more on the Xbox One port of the game to help get it into a good place for release. We're happy to announce that after the first week of porting, the game is completely playable. We're just working on a core rendering performance improvements to ensure it'll be a great experience for everyone.
In addition, we're also hard at work on the next location - The City. We'll have much more to share in the coming weeks.
Thank you!
Thank you to everyone for playing and supporting the game. Please keep sharing it with your friends and posting feedback in the forums. We're looking forward to playing with everyone!
