Here is some information of the game's backstory. Don't worry we are not spoiling any key game moments.
Having said the above here goes:
Since the 2040’s and the first generation of fusion power plant, Deuterium has always been a source of greed. And the extreme competition between various energy corporations on Earth has naturally moved to Mars, once Mankind detected huge Deuterium deposits on the red planet.
This commercial race was made possible thanks to “Mother”, the first self-sufficient geostationary Mars station, designed and built by a visionary independent tech company. Mother had one easy but critical goal: providing Martian structures with floating point operations per second (FLOPs), the computing data authenticating and managing the use of solar energy and Deuterium, both almost endless on Mars.
Mars officially belongs to international waters… Fluctuations of deuterium shares and relative tolerance to lawless approaches are the DNA of the Mars conquest since the very beginning.
Needless to say, on Mars tensions never decreased. Thus, the company war started and significantly increased any cost related to the Mars exploitation. Bringing new workers was no exception to the rule.
But cloning was pretty “trendy” on Earth - in terms of being achievable and forbidden accordingly. This resulted in illegal cloning experimentation on Mars. Out of sight, out of mind, right?
The birth of this malleable workforce only confirmed the need for more autonomous security technology… Still illegally imported on Mars…
And Mother, the neutral arbiter, has kept providing FLOPs to each Martian company.
As expected, clones have finally replaced most human employees of the colonies on Mars (from miners to engineers). At least that was the state of affairs in 2100.
The year is 2109:
You are waking up as a “brand-new” clone.
Currently, it seems like Mother is still operational, managing the planet as she was programmed to do. But something has definitely gone wrong during the last decade…
