Affliction,
Hello everyone, just wanted to stop by real quick and give you a status update.
As many of you know, we've been working on mapping, character design, fighting issues with the engine itself, and we've been working on features for the core of the game.
What we've accomplished so far this week is that we've added a field of view feature that changes when the player runs/sprints. We've seen this in many games and feel that it really gives the illusion of speed and looks pretty awesome. We hope you'll agree. We didn't make the camera shake like crazy or anything drastic or ridiculous like that, that stuff is just annoying. Another thing we've done this week is we've started on the maintenance sector of the facility and so far it looks pretty awesome. Narrow corridors combined with side rooms for storage and utilities make the maintenance sector an interesting place to venture through. For the time being, we've removed crosshairs from the game and the reason for this is because it made the combat extremely easy. Weapons do have a range system but most of the combat in the game will be medium or close range and the crosshair just made it too easy - no skill or strategy required.
To give everyone who's wondering a little more information about the game, I wanted to answer some questions that I recently was asked.
Q: Are there going to be jumpscares?
A: If there are any, they will be VERY few and far between. Probably not, though.
Q: How much is the game going to be?
A: That hasn't been determined yet, but it will reflect how much content there is in the game. Probably around $9.99.
Q: What enemies do you fight in the game?
A: The game will feature several types of enemies that are split among a few different groups. As of right now, there are four groups. These include the civilians (neutral), the facility security (hostile), the military (hostile), and the afflicted (hostile). Civilians will only be encountered once in a great while unless they are dead. The facility security will be encountered early game and they will put up a decent fight and have some good rewards for taking them down. The military will be a real force to be reckoned with. They will have the very best gear and equipment available in the game. They also have a wide variety of character classes and loadouts that will make each encounter dangerous and require a different approach. The afflicted will be the main enemy in the game. Several variations will be in the game for the afflicted. There will be highly sophisticated and mutated creatures, mutated animals, and weaker and less mutated beings that will act much like zombies. These enemies will not be slow in the game, they will be fast and pose an actual threat.
Q: What is the main objective of the game?
A: Although it may not be entirely clear, you're objective is to escape the facility, fight your way through whoever or whatever stands in your way to freedom and solace, and survive. The game is story driven, but it will be more open world than many story driven games.
Q: What do you mean when you say "no hand holding"?
A: The game will force players to actually think for themselves instead of telling them how to do every little thing and where to go and what to do. It won't be completely directionless and will have a tutorial, but it won't help you with a minimap, tons of health items available, tons of ammo or weapons, etc. We're going to try to give you an enjoyable game that let's you play how you want.
Q: When will it be ready?
A: There isn't an exact date. We plan to have it done by the end of 2017 to the middle of 2018. Yes, it'll take awhile, but take in mind it's only one guy (me) working on the main game and contracting out to others for certain things like music, sound effects, very complex code, and artwork.
Q: Can I participate in development?
A: I always encourage the community to get involved in any way they can. The game is being made for the players, why not have ideas from the players?
Q: Can you fight back in this game?
A: Yes!
Q: What weapons will be in the game?
A: Currently, we have the combat knife, the makarov handgun, the agram 2000 sub machine gun, the mp153 baikal shotgun, the ak47 assault rifle, and the dragunov svd sniper rifle. More may come in the future.
Q: What engine are you using?
A: We're using a program that many of you have probably seen called Game Guru. It's designed for small indie teams and we feel that it is a pretty decent engine. This is our first 3D game so we wanted to start off with something that wasn't too terribly complex.
Q: Can I donate?
A: Yes, you can do so here: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=eplasencia.rvn%40gmail.com&lc=US&item_name=Corrosive%20Studios%20LLC¤cy_code=USD&bn=PP-DonationsBF%3abtn_donateCC_LG.gif%3aNonHosted
I think that just about wraps everything up. If you have other questions, feel free to post them here!
